The Progress of Computer Supported Hazard Assessment in Process Industry

Process industry involves a wide scope of area and it is also an extra hazardous industry. Because of its significance in eliminating hazard and risk in process plant, the hazard assessment plays a very important role in the new international safety standard. The current technique of process hazard assessment and its necessity are described. The progress of computer supported (aided) hazard identification, hazard and reliability analysis are also introduced. In recent years, the dynamic modeling and simulation based process hazard assessment have been developed rapidly. The stages of development, the key techniques and the applications of simulation based hazard assessment discussed. For the special advantage of simulation technology, it is becoming a powerful tool for process hazard assessment. Finally, some disadvantages of current computer supported hazard assessment technology and the future directions are discussed.
