| 摘 要： | 冗余语言现象作为一种特定的语言现象，尽管其信息含量低，但在语言交际中起着积极的作用。它可以加强语言的礼貌程度，避免交际中 的尴尬现象；它可含有特殊语义内涵；可以融洽人际关系，建立良好的社交环境；可以避免 岐义使交际获得成功；可以渲染气氛，增强语篇表达力；可以使语言具有幽默感，加强表现 力。

| Abstract: | This paper intends to expound the pragmatic function of redundancy in English. The pragmatic function is analyzed from the following aspects: politeness; cooperative principles; social activator; social ambiguity; textual expressiveness and humor. All these illustrate that the proper use of r edundancy plays an active role in communication. |
