| Abstract: | Injection of a subconvulsive dose of strychnine (which blocked the inhibitory synapses) increases respiratory muscle activity evoked by stimulation of a sciatic nerve as well as by inhalation of hypercapnic gas mixture. Thus the inhibitory synapses prevent an excessive hyperventilation. |
