| Abstract: | The paper, on the basis of the theories proposed by Halliday, Ar ie l and other linguists, deals with the anaphoric errors in the cohesion of topic development in the 52 College English students' English writing. The results ind icate that the students have difficulty in using the noun- formed anaphoric mar kers, which mistakenly leads to the six anaphoric types. The author holds that t he teachers of the English writing should focus much on the students' ability de velopment in anaphoric accessibility, matching principle and differences between English and Chinese. With the help of the anaphoric teaching practice by multi - media, the students have made great progress in these respects. |
