Abstract:With the electrophoretic technique, the Peroxidase (POD ), Catalase (CAT), Esterase (ES), Amylase (AS), Citric acid dehydrogenase (CDH) and Glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) were studied in leaves of 41 plants from 5 small populations with different altitudes and habitats of the endan gered species Deutzia mulitradiata which is endemic to Mt. Jinfo of Nanchuan, China. The band number variation of those isozymes is further studied by several multivariate methods, such as the principal component analysis and the clustering analyses on the average Euclidean distance and Manhattan metric by UPGMA and WPGMA. The result indicates that though individuals within the same population shows certain similarities in the isozyme band number, the electrophoretic difference in the band number and the genetic divergence within the same population are notable, while most individuals from different populations show higher resemblance in the band number of those isozymes, which reveals that there are little relations between the band number of those isozymes and the collecting habitats of those plants. The isolated distribution of different populations makes the gene exchange among individuals from different population nearly impossible, which explains why individuals from different populations show higher similarities in the isozyme band numbers, while the remarkable hybridizations among individuals of the same population lead to more easily gene exchange and stronger divergence in the isozyme band numbers among individuals within the same population. Because the species can flower and pollinate easily but most of its seeds ate abortive, which makes the transferring of those rich genetic variation within the same population to their offsprings nearly impossible so that it is more difficult for the fixation of those genetic variation as a genetic resource for the development of a so restrictedly distributed endangered species as D.multiradiata.
