《春秋》的诞生在中国史学发展过程中具有里程碑性意义——奠定了以后2000多年中国史学发展的基础。“春秋笔法”对中国史学、伦理政治直到社会生活的各个层面都产生了广泛、深远而持久的影响，用简约的文字表达作者的微言大义，用谨慎的用字来表达作者的思想感情与好恶褒贬成为中国文化发展的一大传统。但过分追求义理，使其在某些方面违背了史家记事真实的基本准则并被权势所利用，产生了一些消极影响。
