| Abstract: | Based on the basic theory of earth sliding, surface and earth pressures, the limiting bearing capacity of foundations is investigated, using the method of variational calculus. The solutions and also the upper and lower limits of bearing capacity are obtained, which are able to include the reasults given by K. Terzaghi and J. B. Hansen methods. |
