A PRELIMINARY STUDY OF THE AMPHIBIAN FAUNA OF

Having sorted out and identified specimens collected recently in Henan province and with reference to the data in the past, we have found known Amphibians of 19 speciesand subspeciesbelonging to 9 gerera, 7 families and 2 orders. Among them, was included a new genus, and also a new species(Pachyphynobius shangchengensis sp. nov.), new records 3 species(Hynobius keyserlingii, Rana guentheri, Rana quadranus), the Ranodon sibiricus described in original literature should be modified into Hynolins keyserlingii. The member of amphibian fauna of Henan, 3 species were mainly distributed in the palaearctic realm, 6 species were widely distributed in the palaearctic realm and the Orintnal realm, 6 species were mainly in the central China and 4 species were widely distributed in the ceutral China and south China region. AmPhibian fauna of Henan is a complex which belongs to palaearctic realm and Oriental realm, but which the members of Oriental realm are dominant. Henan is located in both palaearctic realm and Oriental realm and belongs to a transitional. zone of north China and central China region. The boundary—line of the transitional zone comes the north slope of Funiu Mountains in the west, and goes southeast, in the east it goes in the same direotion as the Yellow River does. The amphibians of 17 species are distributed in the south of boundary—line, among them, 7 sprcies are only distributed in the south of boundary—line, and 3 species only in Shangcheng Xin xian and Gushi Counties. The amphibians of 12 species distributed in the north of boundary—line mostly be belong to the species widely distributed on the north and south or endemic species of palaearcticrealm,
