摘    要:INTRODUCTIONDuring mechanical pulping, lipophilic extractives, mainly comprising fatty acids, rosin acids and esters, are often released from wood chips into pr℃ess waters as dispersed colloidal substances. Abstract:Hydrophilic and cationic montmorillonite is desirable for pitch control in the pulp and paper industry. In this paper, polyaminoamide - epichlorohydrin (PAE) modified montmorillonite was prepared. The modified montmorillonite was characterized using X-ray diffraction, FTIR and thermal gravimetric analysis. The amount of PAE intercalated and cationic charge densities of the modified montmorillonite were determined. Finally, it was found that both the solution and melt-intercalated samples with different charge densities exhibited strong interactions with dispersed colloidal rosin acid.
