Different cultures and histories result in different languages and finally lead to the lexical gap in translation,which not only increases the difficulty of translation but also enlarges the hindrance for readers to understand the two cultures and the translated version.Several methods to cope with the lexical gaps in translation are summed up as follows: literal translation or transliteration with notes added to keep the original cultural image;cultural equivalent translation;load word;free translation with attention paid to the connotative and cultural equivalence with the original;free translation and transliteration combined to reproduce the original cultural features;and last but not least flexible and innovative translation.
