D．H．劳伦斯的一生都在寻求自己的理想之地，在其作品中所塑造的逃遁者大多都发现了自己所处时代的社会问题却无力解决，在社会中找不到自我或是由于当时的生活所迫，于是以逃遁的方式来进行抗争，这实在是一种无奈之举。从他的作品中所塑造的人们的逃遁方式来看，他无疑是在表达自己的心声。他讨厌当时工业文明带给社会及家庭的负面影响，他想要逃离出去，寻找自己理想之地以取得精神上的慰藉。

In all his life, D.H. Lawrence had been searching for his ideal place. In his works, all those that with- draw from the world observed the social problems, but they found no ways to solve them. Therefore, they could not find their proper place in the society and even because of the hard life ; they withdrew from the world to resist their life. Actually this was helplessness. From the ways people withdrew from the world, he was no doubt opening his mind. Disgusting the negative influences on the society and the family by the industrial civilization of the times, he wanted to escape and look for his ideal place to get spiritual comfort.
