| Abstract: | Famciclovir, 9 [4 acetoxy 3 (acetoxymethyl)but 1 yl] 2 aminopurine was synthesized by employing regioselective alkylation of 2 aminopurine with 5 (2 bromoethyl) 2,2 dimethyl 1,3 dioxan as a pivotal step. The total yield was 21%. The structure of the intermediates and the target molecule were confirmed by MS, elementary analysis, 1H NMR and 13 C NMR spectra. The route without highly toxic reagents and high presure and temperature may be applied to industrial production. |
