Abstract:microcomputer-based monitoring and diagnostic system for use in the test rig of bear-ing for high-speed railway carriages is presented.Speed control and loading for the bearingcan be automatically carried out.The physical quantities including vibration,temperature,speed and load that describe the working conditions of the bearing can be automatically moni-tored.Emphasis is laid on the hardware structure and the software realization for the vibra-tion monitoring and diagnosis. Based on the feature of the envelop power spectra of the vi-bration signal,a non-dimensional characteristic variable which can be used to diagnose theminor defects on the working surfaces of the bearing elements is proposed.the system hasbeen successfully used in the simulation test on the bearings and the experimental resultsshow that the end face wear and the roller surface gall can be sensitively and effectively de-tected.
