| Abstract: | This paper introduces a new paradigm of computation emergent computation, which takes advantage of parallel computing of a large number of interacting individuals to process some complicated computational tasks. It presents the basic ideas and methods of emergent computation by four instances： ant colony shortest path finding, particle optimization algorithm, one-dimensional evolutionary cellular automata and the natural computing of the real slime molds. Finally, it summarizes some questions and the prospects of the emergent computation. |
