The activity of monoamine oxidases A and B in gamma-irradiated rabbit brains

Summary The activities of monoamine oxidases A and B towards 5-hydroxytryptamine and -phenethylamine, respectively, were compared in the left and right caudatus, hippocampus, parietal cortex, cerebellum and frontal cortex 6 months after gamma-irradiation (single dose of 23 Gy) of either the right hemisphere or of the whole rabbit brain (in which case, a dose of 16 Gy). No difference in monoamine oxidase A or B activities were found in any of the brain regions.Acknowledgment. Migration of lymphocytes through the endothelium of venules in experimental allergic neuritis

Zusammenfassung Bei der experimentellen allergischen Neuritis verlassen die Lymphozyten das zirkulierende Blut der Venolen der peripheren Nerven, indem sie eher durch die als zwischen den Endothelzellen austreten. Der Durchtritt durch das Zytoplasma der Endothelzellen ist ein Beispiel von Emperipolesis.

Release of plasminogen activator from normal and neoplastic endometrium

Summary In the medium of endometrial carcinoma cultures, anti-urokinase-reacting plasminogen activator was released in contrast to cultures of normal or hyperplastic endometrium.This investigation was supported by grants from Malmö General Hospital, the Council for Tobacco Research, USA and the Swedish Medical Research Council (B79-17X-04523-05B).     

Lipid accumulation in mouse hepatocytes after morphine exposure

Summary After morphine injection lipid accumulation in mouse hepatocytes begins within 2 h and continues for 24 h when most hepatocytes are filled with lipid droplets. In spite of morphine maintenance the liver recovers as the accumulated lipids are coupled with protein and subsequently transported and released into the perisinusoidal space of Disse.Supported by USPHS Grants GM 15490, 5 SO7 RR05386-16 and DA-01310.     

Quantitation of fibrinolytic agents released in tissue culture

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine neue Methode zur Bestimmung der freigesetzten Menge fibrinolytisch wirksamer Stoffe in Gewebekulturen beschrieben. Das Gewebe wird in Leightonröhrchen mit einem standardisierten Fibringerinnsel gezüchtet. Die abgebaute Fibrinmenge — als Mass der fibrinolytischen Aktivität — wird durch immunologische Bestimmung der Spaltprodukte gemessen.     

Immunological analysis of bovine blood serum and milk

Zusammenfassung Antigene Faktoren in der Kuhmilch, die mit antigenen Faktoren im Blutserum immunologisch identifiziert werden können, sind mit Hilfe von Immunoelektrophorese analysiert worden. Als Vergleich wurde Kuhblutserum verwendet. Dieses zeigt mit homologem Immunserum, dass es wenigstens 21 antigene Faktoren enthält. 10 bis 15 davon können mit Faktoren in der Milch serologisch identifiziert werden.     

Antifibrinolytic properties of oxyphenbutazone in vitro

Summary The authors found that oxyphenbutazone (Tanderil^®) added to culture medium, in amounts giving a final concentration of 10–100 g/ml, causes a decrease in the liberation of fibrinolytic agents from explants of various tissues cultured in vitro.     

Fibrinolytic activity in wall of human ductus arteriosus

Zusammenfassung Die fibrinolytische Aktivität von 17 Ductus Botalli humaner Foeten wurde mit angrenzenden Segmenten der Arteria pulmonalis and der Aorta mit Hilfe der histochemischen Methode nachTodd/Pandolfi verglichen. Es zeigte sich, dass im Ductus Botalli die fibrinolytische Aktivität im Vergleich zu den beiden anderen Gefässen (sämtliche aus den Aortenbogen entwickelt) höher lag.

Local haemostasis in brain tumours

Summary The thromboplastic activity and the fibrinolytic activity were examined in 7 human meningiomas and 6 gliomas obtained at neurosurgery. Two different haemostatic patterns emerged, meningiomas having lower thromboplastic and higher fibrinolytic activity than that of gliomas. This difference might help to explain the better haemostatic capacity of gliomas during and after operation than that of meningiomas. Supported by Tore Nilson's Fund for Medical Research.
