Effect of indole-3-acetic acid on the histology of gonads and their development inDacus dorsalis hendel

Summary The paper deals with the effects of indole-3 acetic acid on the histology of the gonads and their development inDacus dorsalis Hendel (Diptera; Tephritidae). Flies were topically treated with solutions of different concentrations. This treatment effectively reduced the size of gonads when applied to newly-emerged flies. Most severely affected parts were the germinal regions of the gonads. The number of sperm bundles was much reduced in the treated testes as compared to controlled ones.Acknowledgment. Infecundity and dominant lethal mutations induced inMusca domestica L. by sodium azide (NaN3)

Summary Results of our study suggest that sodium azide is effective in the induction of sterility and dominant lethal mutations in both sexes ofM. domestica L. When treated males were crossed with nontreated females, 100% dominant lethal mutations and 72.3% infecundity were found, whereas in the crosses of nontreated males and treated females, 82.5% dominant lethal mutations and 33.1% infecundity were found. This showed that males are more sensitive to sodium azide than females.     

The effects of a juvenile hormone analogue on the male reproductive organs of the red cotton bug,Dysdercus cingulatus (Heteroptera)

Summary The maleDysdercus cingulatus F., when treated with the JHa, methyl-3, 7, 11-trimethyl-7, 11-dichloro-2-dodecenoate, showed striking morphological deformities in the gonads, such as formation of additional apical growth on the testes, highly deformed, reduced vasa deferentia and accessory glands.Acknowledgments. Summary Drought resistant cv. C-214 ofCicer arietinum L. showed higher accumulation of alanine, threonine, glutamine, -alanine, arginine, amino butyric acid, valine, leucine, phenylalanine than the susceptible cv. G130 under water stress.
