Existence of a reactive zone in the interrenal gland of reptiles

Resumen El estudio histofisiológico de la glándula interrenal de un lagarto teído (Cnemidophorus l. lemniscatus) permitió poner de manifiesto la que se denominó zona reactiva de la glándula. Por su situación es periférica, y está constituida por células dispuestas en formaciones redondeadas. Estas células, que tienen normalmente aspecto de menor actividad, responden más rápida e intensamente que las centrales a la acción de la corticotrofina, exógena o endógena, y aparecen entonces más activas que las últimas.     

Immunochemical characterization of the multimolecular forms of squid ink gland tyrosinase

Résumé Sur le plan immunochimique, la tyrosinase de la poche à encre du CalmarLoligo pealii n'est pas apparentée à la tyrosinase isolée des mêlanomes humains ou des mélanomes de la souris. Trois formes moléculaires de cet enzyme ont été séparées par immunoéléctrophorèse.

Resumen Mediante la administration de metopirona pudo demostrarse en la hipófisis anterior deCnemidophorus l. lemniscatus la existencia de un tercer tipo de células secretoras no mucoprotidicas, responsables de la producción de corticotrofina y no identificadas hasta ahora en reptiles. Estas células se encuentran en la portión rostral del lóbulo y, en los animales testigos, resultan cromófobas con las coloraciones efectuadas. Por acción de la metopirona sufren considerable hipertrofia e hiperplasia y aparecen en su citoplasma gránulos gruesos y relativamente escasos que presentan moderada afinidad hacia la hematoxilina férrica.     

GABA-A-mediated gastrin release induced by baclofen in the isolated vascularly perfused rat stomach

In order to investigate the role of peripheral GABA-B receptors, the effects of the putative GABA-B agonist baclofen on immunoreactive gastrin release from an isolated vascularly perfused rat stomach preparation were examined. The vascular infusion of baclofen at graded concentrations induced a dose-dependent increase in gastrin release; this was unaffected by the GABA-B antagonist delta-aminovaleric acid, but was fully prevented by the selective GABA-A antagonist bicuculline as well as by atropine or tetrodotoxin. These results suggest that the stimulant effects of baclofen are mediated by nervous cholinergic structures associated with GABA-A receptors, and indicate that this GABA-B agonist must be regarded as a partial agonist of peripheral GABA-A receptors.     

Fructose-1,6-diphosphate reduces acute ECG changes due to doxorubicin in isolated rat heart

Doxorubicin (DXR) (0.17 x 10(-4) M) induces an acute cardiotoxicity in isolated rat heart; there is a progressive widening of the S alpha T segment, with a decrease in force derivatives and in the coronary flow. Concurrent perfusion with fructose-1,6-diphosphate (FDP) (10(-5)-10(-4) M) dose-dependently reduces the S alpha T enlargement but fails to affect the reduction in force derivatives and coronary flow. The target of cardiac protection by FDP might be the ionic mechanisms underlying the action potential configuration.
