Coupling between electrons and phonons (lattice vibrations) drives the formation of the electron pairs responsible for conventional superconductivity. The lack of direct evidence for electron-phonon coupling in the electron dynamics of the high-transition-temperature superconductors has driven an intensive search for an alternative mechanism. A coupling of an electron with a phonon would result in an abrupt change of its velocity and scattering rate near the phonon energy. Here we use angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to probe electron dynamics-velocity and scattering rate-for three different families of copper oxide superconductors. We see in all of these materials an abrupt change of electron velocity at 50-80 meV, which we cannot explain by any known process other than to invoke coupling with the phonons associated with the movement of the oxygen atoms. This suggests that electron-phonon coupling strongly influences the electron dynamics in the high-temperature superconductors, and must therefore be included in any microscopic theory of superconductivity.  相似文献

The mechanism by which a new naphthoquinone derivative, the 2-hydroxy-N-(3,4-dimethyl-5-isoxazolyl)-1,4-naphthoquinone-4-imine (INQI-E) has antibacterial effect againstStaphylococcus aureus was studied. The interaction of INQI-E with the bacteria was followed by absorption spectroscopy at 323 and 490 nm. The absorption band of INQI-E at 490 nm undergoes a hypochromic shift with a decrease of intensity. This effect was found to be reversible by oxygenation during the first hours of incubation. The participation of an oxidation-reduction process related to the respiratory chain was demonstrated by oxygen consumption. An increase in O2 uptake and inhibition ofS. aureus growth was observed. Experiments with three inhibitors of the respiratory chain demonstrated that the pathway induced by INQI-E was antimycin-resistant and KCN- and salicylhydroxamic acid (SHAM)-sensitive, which suggests that INQI-E is capable of diverting the normal electron flow to an alternate superoxide-producing route. On the other hand, experiments with Tiron, a specific scavenger of superoxide, hindered the effect of INQI-E againstS. aureus, indicating that the inhibitory growth effect of this quinone-imine is mainly due to the production of the cytotoxic superoxide radical.  相似文献

Since the 1950s, Heisenberg and others have addressed the problem of how to explain the appearance of countable particles in continuous fields. Stable localized field configurations were searched for an ingredient for a general field theory of elementary particles, but the majority of nonlinear field models were unable to predict them. As an exception, Skyrme succeeded in describing nuclear particles as localized states, so-called 'skyrmions'. Skyrmions are a characteristic of nonlinear continuum models ranging from microscopic to cosmological scales. Skyrmionic states have been found under non-equilibrium conditions, or when stabilized by external fields or the proliferation of topological defects. Examples are Turing patterns in classical liquids, spin textures in quantum Hall magnets, or the blue phases in liquid crystals. However, it has generally been assumed that skyrmions cannot form spontaneous ground states, such as ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic order, in magnetic materials. Here, we show theoretically that this assumption is wrong and that skyrmion textures may form spontaneously in condensed-matter systems with chiral interactions without the assistance of external fields or the proliferation of defects. We show this within a phenomenological continuum model based on a few material-specific parameters that can be determined experimentally. Our model has a condition not considered before: we allow for softened amplitude variations of the magnetization, characteristic of, for instance, metallic magnets. Our model implies that spontaneous skyrmion lattice ground states may exist generally in a large number of materials, notably at surfaces and in thin films, as well as in bulk compounds, where a lack of space inversion symmetry leads to chiral interactions.  相似文献
