Fusion of microsomal vesicles

Summary Studies which indicate the fusion of rat liver microsomal vesicles show that the rate of fusion of microsomal vesicles, as revealed by electron microscopic examinations, is dependent on the fusion temperature and the amount of detergent present in the microsomal suspension.Acknowledgments. The effect of chloroquine upon the developing lens

Summary Applied to the developing lens of the 14-day-old chick embryo, in organ culture conditions, chloquine prevented the elongation of the primary lens fibres, destroyed the equatorial ones and provoked vacuolisation and/or destruction in the epithelial cells.This work was supported by a grant from the office of the Chief Scientist, Ministry of Health, Israel     

Effect of the venom sac content of the oriental hornet (Vespa orientalis) on the metamorphosis of the toad tadpole (Bufo viridis)

Résumé Le venin de la guêpe (Vespa orientalis) supprime la métamorphose du têtard de crapaud (Bufo viridis) chez tous les animaux traités au stade prémétamorphique et chez 60% des animaux traités au stade prométamorphique. Onze des animaux traités ont montré un éclaircissement de la peau.     

Effects of hypergravity on rat fertility,pregnancy, parturition and survival

Summary Persistent centrifugation (at 1.18×g to 1.47×g) of pregnant rats reduced the number of deliveries and the survival time of the newborns. The extent of the damage increased with increasing distance from the axis. Male fertility was reduced.     

Carboxypeptidase Y fromSaccharomyces cerevisiae: Circular dichroism and fluorescence studies

Summary Carboxypeptidase Y was isolated fromSaccharomyces cerevisiae and its molecular structure investigated. The enzyme in the native state possesses 40% of its amino acid residues in a -conformation. Its tryptophan residues seem to be largely buried in an apolar and unsymmetrical environment.Acknowledgments. Pseudolymphoma of skin induced by oriental hornet (Vespa orientalis) venom.

Intradermal injection of saline suspension of Vespa orientalis venom sac to 57 black mice caused a local nodule composed of lymphocytes, few histiocytes and plasma cells 10 to 12 days following the injection. This reaction simulates the pseudolymphoma reaction observed in humans following arthropode stings.
