Lectin-induced lymphocyte stimulation in pigs — a kinetic study of NORs

Summary Early reactions of rRNA-cistrons in lectin-stimulated PBL cultures of domestic pigs are shown. Interphases showing 3 or more clusters of stained areas were attributed mainly to cells after first division. Clear differences are shown between PHA-and ConA-induced NOR-expression patterns compared to the patterns in PW-stimulated cultures.We thank Dr W. Gratze for valuable techniqual assistance, Dr M. Divergent effects of theophylline on adenylate cyclase preparations from guinea-pig heart and lung

Zusammenfassung Theophyllin verringert die Aktivität der Adenyl-Cyclase (AC) in der plasmamembranreichen Fraktion der Meerschweinchenlunge in Konzentrationen von 6–10 mM; es hat dagegen keinen Einfluss auf die Aktivität der AC in Meerschweinchenherzen. Diese Resultate weisen darauf hin, dass in verschiedenen Geweben geringe Unterschiede in der Enzym-Katalyse bestehen können.     

The genome sequence of Atlantic cod reveals a unique immune system

Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) is a large, cold-adapted teleost that sustains long-standing commercial fisheries and incipient aquaculture. Here we present the genome sequence of Atlantic cod, showing evidence for complex thermal adaptations in its haemoglobin gene cluster and an unusual immune architecture compared to other sequenced vertebrates. The genome assembly was obtained exclusively by 454 sequencing of shotgun and paired-end libraries, and automated annotation identified 22,154 genes. The major histocompatibility complex (MHC)?II is a conserved feature of the adaptive immune system of jawed vertebrates, but we show that Atlantic cod has lost the genes for MHC?II, CD4 and invariant chain (Ii) that are essential for the function of this pathway. Nevertheless, Atlantic cod is not exceptionally susceptible to disease under natural conditions. We find a highly expanded number of MHC?I genes and a unique composition of its Toll-like receptor (TLR) families. This indicates how the Atlantic cod immune system has evolved compensatory mechanisms in both adaptive and innate immunity in the absence of MHC?II. These observations affect fundamental assumptions about the evolution of the adaptive immune system and its components in vertebrates.     

The exudative diathesis produced by torula yeast

Zusammenfassung Die exsudative Diathese, welche bei Küken durch Verfütterung einer Vitamin-E-freien Nahrung mit Torulahefe als Proteinquelle hervorgerufen wird, wird mit dem nicht unbeträchtlichen Gehalt dieser Hefe an leicht oxydierbaren Fettsäuren in Verbindung gesetzt.Die Vitamin-E-freie Torula-Hefe-Nahrung führt zu Peroxydation des Körperfettes, wie es früher in entsprechenden Versuchen mit Kasein-Lebertran-Nahrungen gefunden wurde.Die von amerikanischen Forschern gefundene Schutzwirkung von Selen gegen exsudative Diathese wird bestätigt.Das Auftreten von Encephalomalacie wurde durch Selen nicht verhindert.

Verhalten des Eisenstoffwechsels unter experimentellem Stress. Methodik zur Bestimmung des «non-haem»-Eisens im Gewebe

Summary The non-haemin iron was extracted from tissues by hot hydrochloric acid and determined by sulphonated bathophenanthrolin disodium salt. This method is of reasonable sensitivity, not influenced by haemoglobin iron and gives well-reproducible results.     

农田土壤温室气体释放通量的研究

采用碱石灰吸收法和Hohenheim Chamber法测定了德国南部农田CO2释放规律,并对两种方法进行了比较。供试作物为冬小麦。在实验期间内,各处理的CO2净释放量均为正值,表明在春季土壤－作物系统是碳的源。一天内作物－土壤系统在大部分内表现为CO2净释放,只在中午11：00至13：00且光照充分时才出现净同化。不同轮作方式下农田CO2累计释放量存在差异。不同处理CO2累计释放产为净释放,但处理间存在显著差别。CO2净释放量与气温、土壤温度极显著相关,与PAR相关性不明显。研究结果还表明,碱石灰吸收法吸收时间和吸收剂的数量对试验结果有影响,而吸收时间的影响更为明显。
