Teratogenic interactions between cadmium and radiation in mice

Summary Mouse embryos were exposed to various doses of cadmium and/or X-rays on day 8 of gestation. The combined treatment exerted an antagonistic effect regarding the teratogenic action of the two agents.     

天然沸石吸附氨氮

采用江苏镇江天然沸石为实验原料,在不同影响因素条件下,对含有氨氮的水样进行交换吸附研究.实验结果表明:天然沸石对氨氮的吸附是快速吸附、缓慢平衡的过程;天然沸石粒径减小,有利于沸石对氨氮的交换吸附;pH对天然沸石吸附氨氮的影响较大,pH为7时有利于氨氮的交换吸附;随着沸石用量的增加,单位质量天然沸石的氨氮交换量减小.最佳工艺条件为:沸石粒径>60～80目,pH7左右,沸石投加量50 g/L,反应30 min.     

Induction of developmental anomalies in mice by maternal stress

Summary The short-time restraint of pregnant mice on day 8 of gestation led to a significant increase of the anomaly rate in fetuses. Induced radiation resistance in cell cultures of Chinese hamster cells: induction and manner of resistance (author's transl)]

Mutations-induction followed by selection is a suitable method for developing a cell line with resistance to low doses of X-rays. In comparison with the original cell line, the derived resistant line is characterized by an enhanced variability of the chromosome number, and no higher level of cellular repair, limited to the two repair types described.     

Methaemoglobinbildung durch Röntgenstrahlen in normalen und katalasefreien Erythrocyten des Menschen

Summary Methaemoglobin-formation in irradiated human red cells largely depends on catalase activity in either phase of the system. The formation rate is low in normal, but high in acatalatic cells. The latter rate can be lowered to normal by adding 0.1 /ml catalase to the suspending medium.

Cellular damage and recovery of the early developing mouse eye following low dose irradiation. I. X-rays on day 8 of gestation

Summary The eye region of mouse embryos, irradiated with 90 rad X-rays on day 8 of gestation, was examined 24 h later for cellular damage. Besides the overall developmental retardation, the radiation insult decreased the proliferation rate and altered the mitotic phase ratio. Due to the limited extension of necrotic zones, a reduced number of dead cells was found in the irradiated optic vesicles.Supported by the Swiss National Foundation for Scientific Research. The effect of Valium® anaesthesia on the radiosensitivity of the skin of the mouse foot

Summary Valium^® anaesthesia significantly reduces the effect of large single doses of X-rays on the mouse foot skin as compared with Nembutal^® anaesthesia.
