Prof. Sun Jiaguang attended the 11^th Sino-US Joint Commission Meeting on Scientific and Technological Cooperation

Oct. 10-18, 2004, NSFC delegation headed by Prof. Sun Jiaguang, Vice President of NSFC visited the United States of America. They attended the 11 th Sino-US Joint Commission Meeting on Scientific and Technological Coop-eration, and visited NSF, University of Washington, the Boeing Company and Microsoft. President Chen Yiyu Met with Mexican Governmental Technological Delegation

On August 18, Prof. Chen Yiyu, President of NSFC met with the seven-member Mexican governmental techno-logical delegation headed by Mr. Jaime Parada Avila, President of the National Council for Science and Technology of Mexico. President Chen briefed the Mexican side with information about NSFC‘s general functions, organizational structure, funding of projects, review and evaluation procedures and international cooperation.     

Joint Sino-US Symposium on Ecological Complexity and Ecosystem Services Held in Beijing

May24-25, 2004, Joint Sino-US Symposium on Eco-logical Complexity and Ecosys-tem Services was held in Bei-jing. The symposium was co-sponsored by NSFC, CAS and NSF, and was organized by InstituteofZoology, CAS and Arizona State University. Prof.Zhu Zuoyan, Vice President of NSFC, attended the opening ceremony and made an impor-tant speech.     

“Sino-US Forum on Basic Science for the Next Fifteen Years” Held in Beijing

February 16-17, 2004, “Sino-US Forum on Basic Science for the Next Fifteen Years”, co-sponsored by NSFCand NSF, was held in Beijing. The meeting discussed the future of basic science in the next 15 years and provided con-sultancy to China‘s research for developing medium and long term strategic plan for basic science development.Dr. Joseph Bordogna, Deputy Director of NSF attended the meeting as the leader of the US delegation.     

Vice President Zhu Daoben met with Prof. Peter J. Stang

May 17-19, 2004, the First China-US Symposium on Nanoscale Science and Technology, co-sponsored by NS-FC, CAS and NSF, co-chaired by CAS Vice President Bai Chunli and US NNI Director Mike Roco, was held in Bei-jing. Over seventy participants from China and United States exchanged the frontier achievements and development and discussed the cooperation between China and US in the area of Nacoscale science and technology. Prof. Wang Jie,Vice President ofNSFC, attended the opening ceremony and made an address.
