Living Life as Inquiry

In this paper I explain what I mean by living life as inquiry, showing how I apply notions of inquiry as method to many areas of my professional and personal activities and how research ideas are generated and tested throughout my life space. The paper has twin tracks which reflect the interwoven processes I am describing and advocating. One is more practice based; in it I outline some of my inquiry practices and dilemmas, and give two examples from my work situation. The second track is more focused on theory, highlighting ideas about systemic analysis, influencing change, relational work, and gender. Writing the paper became an example of my topic. I therefore note features of the text which illustrate processes and practices of inquiry.     

Uplift processes for the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau: A comparative study of Yecheng section and Siwalik group

Comparative studies of the Yecheng section at the northern piedmont of the Kunlun Mountain, and the Surai Khola section at the southern piedmont of the Himalayan Mountain, indicates that the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is dominated by continuous uplift over the past 10 Ma. And the effective time scale for dividing the uplift stages would be 1 Ma. The uplift processes of the entire plateau can be divided mainly into three stages, i.e., a slow uplift stage (10.0-6.0 MaBP), a transitional uplift stage (6.0-2.5 MaBP) and a rapid uplift stage (since 2.5 MaBP). The plateau might have risen to 2000 m above sea level by 4.6 MaBP in response to uplift and to more than 3000 m by 2.5 MaBP.     

蒙药协日嘎-4片利尿作用的实验研究

目的：观察蒙药协日嘎-4片的利尿作用.方法：运用大鼠钟罩法和小鼠滤纸称重法,观察尿量、排尿次数并做尿液分析.结果：蒙药协日嘎-4片明显增加大鼠和小鼠排尿量和排尿次数.结论：蒙药协日嘎-4片有明显的利尿作用而且对尿液成份没有影响.     

流体吸附层厚度计算及应用分析

根据流固吸附特性和分子间能量的变化规律来确定表面流、固体相互作用的程度,对表面吸附性能和吸附层进行描述,得出以能量表示的吸附层厚度表达式;从而确定描述表面粘度变化计算的表达式中的重要参数-吸附层厚度,粘度描述是润滑工程领域研究的基础.本文的研究适用于以流体膜为基础进行工作的研究,是纳米级润滑理论研究必须解决的问题之一.     

A Fresh Look at The Systems Approach and an Agenda for Action: Peeking Through the Lens of Churchman's Aphorisms

This paper critically examines some important topics of systemic thinking to understand how our perception of problems can be enhanced and how the chances of deception can be mitigated while dealing with real-world problems. To achieve this objective, an attempt is first made to scrutinize some of the key issues of systemic thinking by looking through the lens of Churchman's aphorisms at: (1) the illusion of completeness and closure, (2) the meaning of holism, and (3) the concept of ‘Interbeing’. A preliminary ‘agenda for action’ is then laid out suggesting ways for increasing our perception and for minimizing the chances of being deceived in dealing with systems problems in practice.     

辽南山地构造应力场的初步研究

了辽南万家岭地区为例，从研究区的地形图上测量的沟谷的长、宽、高差等要素，运用最新的3D矢量分析方法，对区内的构造应力场进行初步研究，结果表明，本区主要受北北东向新华夏构造和北向西向的断裂构造影响，用此方法得到的结论与传统方法相一致，也证明此方法的精确性和可靠性。     

The influence of tectonic evolution on the accumulation and enrichment of coalbed methane (CBM)

The current accumulation and enrichment of CBM reservoir is a result of the preservation and destruction of former CBM, after the superposing evolution of reversing-and-uplifting and the subsequent evolution within the coal-bearing basin. The critical moment of the CBM reservoir formation is the time when the burying depth of the overlying net thickness amounts to the least in geological history after the gas generation of coal beds. Except the coal-bearing basins of lower metamorphism, most basins suffered the evolution stage of reversion and uplift. The formation of the CBM reservoir is controlled by the beginning and lasting time, and the intensity of reversing and uplifting. The tectonic evolution after reversing and uplifting also affects the accumulation of CBM in coal-bearing basin. The CBM constantly dissipates in the area of chronically uplifting and de-nudating. The area developed overlying sedimentation is advantageous to the preservation of CBM, but also can lead to the reduction of CBM saturation.
