Some Aspects on Oral English Teaching in Universities in China

English is one of the most important foreign languages taught in universities in China. However, the results are often far from satisfactory. Students in universities often find it hard to express themselves in oral English after many years' study. Language is the most important means of human communication, and communication is the most important function of language. Therefore, the ultimate goal of language instruction is to equip the learners with the ability to use the language for communication. How to help undergraduates to improve their oral English becomes a big challenge for English teachers in China. Aiming to make some contributions to improve undergraduates' oral English, this paper explores some areas of concern which are believed to be the most critical to the success of Oral English Teaching (OET) in China. The first part of this paper discusses some existing factors that constrain OET in China. It followed by exploring some aspects on improving OET for undergraduates in China. It also provides some techniques/methods essential for OET teachers to employ in a classroom.

This paper aims to find out the ways of cultivating students’ ability of nonverbal communication from the cross-cultural perspective.The author tries to illustrate some practical and effective ways to improve nonverbal communication through case study.

The Communicative Functions of ntentional isinterpretation in Daily Conversation

The present study analyzes the phenomenon of intentional misinterpretation in verbal communication and its communicative functions. In human verbal communication, misunderstanding occurs when the hearer＇s understanding of the speaker＇s utterances is not identical with the speaker＇s intended one. However, in some cases, the hearer may intentionally choose the interpretation diverging from the speaker＇s intended meaning in order to achieve certain communicative effects. This kind of linguistic phenomenon can be called intentional misinterpretation, which performs various functions in human daily conversation.     

对当前西藏大学外语教学方向的思考

针对目前外语教学中存在的问题，提出了“交际法”的课堂教学方法，指出在外语教学中要注重培养学生的语言交际能力，语言交际能力的培养应是西藏大学外语教学的方向。
