Complete larval development of the rare porcellanid crab,Novorostrum decorocrus Osawa, 1998 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Anomura: Porcellanidae), reared under laboratory conditions

The complete larval development of Novorostrum decorocrus Osawa, , is described and illustrated on the basis of laboratory‐reared material. Two zoeal stages and one megalop stage were recorded. Zoeas of N. decorocrus closely resemble those of N. indicum in the appendage characters, including the endopod of the maxillule with only a single stout seta on the distal margin. This character is unique to Novorostrum zoeas. However, N. decorocrus is distinguished from N. indicum by the setation on the endopod of the maxilla and the basis of the second maxilliped in both zoeal stages. The megalops of N. decorocrus are characterized by having a strongly elongate carapace, and differs considerably from the adults in the structure of the carapace, rostrum and third thoracic sternite, and in the armature of the pereiopods. The larval duration of N. decorocrus suggests that this rare porcellanid is more widely distributed than currently known.

Decompoisition of toxic and environmentally hazardous 2,3,7,8-tetra-chlorodibenzo-p-dioxin by gamma irradiation

Summary The decomposition of the toxic and environmentally hazardous 2378-TCDD by gamma irradiation was studied and successfully used to decontaminatge laboratory wastes containing small quantities of this chemically and biological stable compound. The method makes use of gamma irradiation from a commercial⁶⁰cobalt facility at high dose levels (100 kGy) to break down the compound into notoxic products. Irradiation also decomposed 2378-TCDD in contaminated soil from the Seveso accident.

Chitin synthetase activity and inhibition in different insect microsomal preparations

Summary To facilitate massive screening and for structure-activity relationship studies of chitin synthesis inhibitors, methods to obtain the chitin synthetase (CS) containing microsomal fraction from the postmitochondrial supernatant were examined. Compared with fractionation by differential centrifugation, the CaCl₂ precipitate yielded the most active CS preparation. Acidification (pH 5.6) and polyethylene glycol 8000 (5%) treatments resulted in relatively low CS activity. Inhibitory effects were detected with polyoxin-D and 1-geranyl-2-methyl benzimidazole, a novel CS inhibitor, but not with benzoylphenyl ureas.

极低逾渗阈值的导电聚苯胺纳米复合膜

直接将改进的微乳液聚合法合成的纳米聚苯胺分别与聚乙烯醇和聚丙烯酰胺进行溶液共混复合,浇铸成纳米聚苯胺复合膜,研究了聚苯胺的加入量对复合膜的电导率的影响.所得复合膜的电导率符合逾渗规律,且导电膜的逾渗阈值极低,为0.04%左右,其中PVA纳米复合膜出现了双逾渗行为.加入极少量的聚苯胺即可使膜的导电率发生突跃,使其从绝缘体转变成半导体或导体.逾渗阈值下的复合膜不仅力学性能良好,而且透明性接近于纯基体膜,当膜中的聚苯胺质量分数为0.1%时,PVA复合膜对300～700 nm波长的可见光的透过率为70%～84%.
