Prof. Wang Jie, NSFC Vice President, cordially met with Dr. David Lightfoot, Assistant Director of USA National Science Foundation （NSF） responsible for the Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences, on April 21, 2008.     

Friends of NSFC in Obama’s cabinet

On 15 December, 2008, the US President-Elect Obama Picked Steven Chu for Energy Secretary.
Steven Chu is an old friend of NSFC. On May 4, 1998, he attended a reception of Nobel Prize winners in Beijing hosted by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The following photos were taken at the meeting.     

NSFC Strengthens its Funding in Wenchuan

NSFC Earth Sciences Department is about to approve two Director＇s Fund projects to provide better scientific support to the rescue and relief efforts and collect first-hand data with major scientific significance in post-earthquake Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province. One project is on the relation between the stress field of post-earthquake （M=8.0） deformation and the strong aftershocks in Wenchuan County and the other is on the field investigation and studies on geological hazards and secondary disasters of blocking up river caused by earthquake in the County.

Under a research project funded by a key program project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Prof. Cui Lishan, member of China University of Petroleum and colleagues published their re- search findings in an article ＂A transforming metal nanocomposite with large elastic strain, low modulus and high strength＂ on Science （2013, 339（6124）：1191-4）

Joint Research Fund for Overseas Chinese Scholars and Scholars in Hong Kong and Macao

In order to take advantage of the overseas(including Hong Kong and Macao) resources of science and technology and encourage overseas excellent young scholars to serve the country,NSFC sets up the Joint Research Fund for Overseas Chinese Scholars and Scholars in Hong Kong and Macao to support overseas (including Hong Kong and Macao) excellent scholars under the age of 50 to conduct high-level joint research with researchers in mainland China.
