大学生社会主义核心价值体系心理认同研究

心理认同是建设社会主义核心价值体系的重要内容。大学生心理认同有体验性、自我性和求新性等三大特点。高校要着力打造文化精品,树立先进典型,注重实践体验,创新传播方式,体现以生为本,不断创新主题教育的内容、形式、载体,充分关切学生的心理需求与利益诉求,切实增强大学生对社会主义核心价值体系的心理认同。     

‘Holding’ and ‘endorsing’ claims in the course of scientific activities

My principal aims are to show that holding, adopting and endorsing (definitions of which I provide) are distinct cognitive attitudes that may be taken towards claims at different moments of scientific activities, and that none of them are reducible to acceptance (as defined by Jonathan Cohen); to explore in detail the differences between holding and accepting, using the controversies about GMOs to provide illustrations; and to draw some implications pertinent to democratic decision-making concerning public policies about science and technology, and to the responsibilities that scientists thereby incur.     

Assessment of different genetic distances in constructing cotton core subset by genotypic values

One hundred and sixty-eight genotypes of cotton from the same growing region were used as a germplasm group to study the validity of different genetic distances in constructing cotton core subset. Mixed linear model approach was employed to unbiasedly predict genotypic values of 20 traits for eliminating the environmental effect. Six commonly used genetic distances （Euclidean, standardized Euclidean, Mahalanobis, city block, cosine and correlation distances） combining four commonly used hierarchical cluster methods （single distance, complete distance, unweighted pair-group average and Ward＇s methods） were used in the least distance stepwise sampling （LDSS） method for constructing different core subsets. The analyses of variance （ANOVA） of different evaluating parameters showed that the validities of cosine and correlation distances were inferior to those of Euclidean, standardized Euclidean, Mahalanobis and city block distances. Standardized Euclidean distance was slightly more effective than Euclidean, Mahalanobis and city block distances. The principal analysis validated standardized Euclidean distance in the course of constructing practical core subsets. The covariance matrix of accessions might be ill-conditioned when Mahalanobis distance was used to calculate genetic distance at low sampling percentages, which led to bias in small-sized core subset construction. The standardized Euclidean distance is recommended in core subset construction with LDSS method.     

Values in early-stage climate engineering: The ethical implications of “doing the research”

Calls for research on climate engineering have increased in the last two decades, but there remains widespread agreement that many climate engineering technologies (in particular, forms involving global solar radiation management) present significant ethical risks and require careful governance. However, proponents of research argue, ethical restrictions on climate engineering research should not be imposed in early-stage work like in silico modeling studies. Such studies, it is argued, do not pose risks to the public, and the knowledge gained from them is necessary for assessing the risks and benefits of climate engineering technologies. I argue that this position, which I call the “broad research-first” stance, cannot be maintained in light of the entrance of nonepistemic values in climate modeling. I analyze the roles that can be played by nonepistemic political and ethical values in the design, tuning, and interpretation of climate models. Then, I argue that, in the context of early-stage climate engineering research, the embeddedness of values will lead to value judgments that could harm stakeholder groups or impose researcher values on non-consenting populations. I conclude by calling for more robust reflection on the ethics and governance of early-stage climate engineering research.

内容体系在大学生核心价值观教育中具有重要地位，结合中国梦要求不断更新内容体系是时代发展的需要。构建大学生核心价值观教育内容体系，要遵循中国梦的指向性原则、整体性原则和主体性原则要求，以党的十八大提出的“三个倡导”为重点，着力从价值目标内容体系、价值取向内容体系、价值评价内容体系三个维度系统考虑。     

Catching the WAVE: The Weight-Adjusting Account of Values and Evidence

It is commonly argued that values “fill the logical gap” of underdetermination of theory by evidence, namely, values affect our choice between two or more theories that fit the same evidence. The underdetermination model, however, does not exhaust the roles values play in evidential reasoning. I introduce WAVE – a novel account of the logical relations between values and evidence. WAVE states that values influence evidential reasoning by adjusting evidential weights. I argue that the weight-adjusting role of values is distinct from their underdetermination gap-filling role. Values adjust weights in three ways. First, values affect our trust in the testimony of others. Second, values influence the evidential thresholds required for justified epistemic judgments. Third, values influence the relative weight of a certain type of evidence within a body of multimodal discordant evidence. WAVE explains, from an epistemic perspective, rather than psychological, how smokers, for example, can find the same evidence about the dangers of smoking less persuasive than non-smokers. WAVE allows for a wider effect of values on our accepted scientific theories and beliefs than the effect for which the underdetermination model allows alone; therefore, science studies scholars must consider WAVE in their research and analysis of evidential case studies.
