董事会控制、经理报酬与公司经营绩效

对影响企业经营者报酬的一些因素--董事会控制、经理个人特征、公司经营绩效进行了分析,探讨了董事会在对企业主要管理者--经理(CEO)的激励约束机制控制中的作用.基于我国2001年上市公司的数据,实证分析发现:董事会规模、董事会中独立董事和非独立董事的比例与经理报酬的相关性都不显著,CEO的双重性与经理报酬显著正相关.这表明,在我国上市公司中独立董事的独立性不强,董事会、独立董事在公司经理激励约束机制控制上没有起到应有的作用.实证结果还表明,经理个人特征对经理报酬的解释能力远大于董事会结构变量和公司经营绩效变量对经理报酬的解释能力.     

基于价格上限管制下上下游垄断企业的福利分析

在上下游垄断企业所带来的较低社会福利问题的基础上,分析了政府管制机构对下游垄断企业以及上游垄断企业分别实施价格上限管制情况下的利润、消费者剩余以及社会福利,并比较分析了上下游垄断企业在管制下的整个社会福利与未受管制时以及一体化时的社会福利,得出了一些新的结论.

The elusive engine in <Emphasis Type="Italic">Myxococcus xanthus</Emphasis> gliding motility

Bacterial motility is essential for chemotaxis, virulence and complex social interactions leading to biofilm and fruiting body formation. Although bacterial swimming in liquids with a flagellum is well understood, little is known regarding bacterial movements across solid surfaces. Gliding motility, one such mode of locomotion, has remained largely mysterious because cells move smoothly along their long axis in the absence of any visible organelle. In this review, I discuss recent evidence that focal adhesion systems mediate gliding motility in the social bacterium Myxococcus xanthus and combine this evidence with previous work to suggest a new working hypothesis inspired from knowledge in apicomplexan parasites. I then propose experimental directions to test the model and compare it to other pre-existing models. Finally, evidence on gliding mechanisms of selected organisms are presented to ask whether some features of the model have precedents in other bacteria and whether this complex biological process could be explained by a single mechanism or involves multiple distinct mechanisms. The theory of the firm: An epistemological analysis

Is the theory of the firm equipped to answer questions about contemporary society? By a systemic examination of the nature of laws and facts assumed in the theory of the firm, we find that while the theory of the firm has found its Descartes and its Hume, it is not yet clear whether it has found its Kant. We speculate that a pragmatism-inspired theory of the firm, which incorporates the science of ethical management, is needed for the theory to become relevant for contemporary society.
