On driving and synchronization of the rate of clonic discharges of the two autonomous hippocampal epileptogenic foci by thalamic stimulation

Zusammenfassung Bei Katzen wurde auf beiden Seiten im Hippocampus je ein epileptischer Fokus (Aluminapaste) geschaffen. In einer zweiten Sitzung wurden Elektroden in jeden Hippocampus und in die intralaminären Thalamuskerne implantiert. Durch Reizung in den letzteren Strukturen konnten die sonst voneinander unabhängigen epileptischen Entladungen der beiden Hippocampi synchronisiert werden.     

The effect on the onset of puberty of whole body irradiation of infant female rats with and without hypothalamic lesions

Résumé Les résultats obtenus suggèrent que la lésion de l'hypothalame provoquée par la microcoagulation accélère l'apparition de la puberté des rats totalement irradiés aux rayons X, ce qui est le cas aussi chez des rats normaux. Mais l'apparition de la puberté est retardée proportionnellement aux doses de rayons X appliquées, indépendamment de la microcoagulation.     

Enhanced phagocytic function in vivo after whole body irradiation

Résumé Chez des souris irradiées, le carbone colloidal et les bactériesE. coli marquées au⁵¹Cr ont été éliminés plus rapidement de la circulation. En étudiant la distribution de la radioactivité dans les divers organes, on conclut que cette évacuation plus rapide résulte d'une activité phagocytaire plus intense des cellules réticuloendothéliales du foie plutôt que d'une augmentation générale de la perméabilité du système vasculaire.     

Dietary restriction and fetal development

Summary The effect of deficient nutrition of pregnant Wistar rats on the fetal weight has been studied. It has been established that the fetal weight of the group of rats fed with a restricted amount of stock diet lags behind the fetal weight of the group receiving unrestricted amounts of the same stock diet. The differences in weight between the 2 groups were, on each day of the observation period, significant at the level of p<0.05 and p<0.01, respectively.This work was supported by a grant of the Republic Research fund of Croatia No. 18-04-06/19-1975.     

Nephrocompensatory growth following thymectomy

Summary Thymectomy performed 28 days before unilateral nephrectomy produced significant inhibition in compensatory renal growth (CRG) in 3–6-month-old rats. Sera from thymectomized animals are not deprived of their renotrophic activity, but thymectomy of serum recipients almost abolished the capability of renotrophic serum to produce CRG.Supported by the Research Fund of Croatia, Yugoslavia.

Zusammenfassung In Laboratoriumsuntersuchungen wurde der Einfluss von Aluminiumphosphat auf die «dose-response regression lines» des Impfstoffes gegen Keuchhusten untersucht.     

A quantitative method for measuring the uptake of colloidal carbon by mouse tissues

Résumé On décrit une méthode spectrophotométrique quantitative pour la détermination de la répartition du carbone colloÏdal dans les organes d'une seule souris. La sensibilité de la méthode est de 0,25l de la suspension de carbone colloÏdal C11/1431a. La rate est le tissu qui a présenté la plus grande capacité de fixation du carbone. Elle est suivie par la moelle osseuse, la foie et les poumons.     

Quantitative biological determination of 5-hydroxytryptamine

Zusammenfassung Die zwei meistgebrauchten Methoden der biologischen Auswertung von 5-Hydroxytryptamin, nämlich die am isolierten, atropinisierten Rattenuterus bzw. Rattencolon, wurden in bezug auf ihre Eignung für die quantitative Bestimmung verglichen. Für diesen Zweck bedienten wir uns der sogenannten 2 + 2-Dosen-Prozedur. Beide Methoden ergaben statistisch gleichwertige Resultate. Die Unregelmässigkeit der Uteruskontraktionen machen das Testieren öfters unmöglich, was beim Colon sehr selten der Fall ist. Ausserdem ist das Colon empfindlicher als der Uterus. Wegen dieser Vorteile ist das Colon für die quantitative biologische Auswertung von 5-Hydroxytryptamin dem Uterus vorzuziehen.     

Effets de l'irradiation sur le métabolisme des acides nucléiques et de leurs dérivés acidosolubles chez le rat

Summary In the rat, X-irradiation leads to a decrease of the net RNA and DNA content of the spleen, without, however, increasing the low molecular weight nucleic acid derivatives in the acid-soluble fractions of the same tissue. It is suggested that an alteration of the cell membranes could account for the apparent elimination of these nucleic acid degradation products which should normally appear in the acid-soluble fraction.
