Neural inducing capacity of cyclic AMP on post-nodal pieces of early chick blastoderms

Summary Cyclic AMP (0.5 mM) induced neural differentiation in post-nodal pieces of early chick blastoderms, at least in part, through promoting cell movement, tissue condensation, and assembly of microtubules.This study was supported in part by grants from the Rutgers University Research Council.     

New positive,tetrazolium-linked,staining method for use with electrophoresis of phosphoglycerate kinase

Zusammenfassung Eine Methode zur positiven Anfärbung der Phosphoglycerat-Kinase (EC 2.7.2.3) nach Stärkegelektrophorese wird beschrieben. Das in der Vorwärtsreaktion des Enzyms gebildete Adenosin-Triphosphat wird mit einem Indikatorsystem (Hexokinase, Glukose-6-phosphat-Dehydrogenase, Tetrazoliumsalz) erfasst.     

Intestinal degradation and absorption of the glycosidic sweeteners stevioside and rebaudioside A

Summary Contrary to prior indications, the glycosidic sweeteners stevioside and rebaudioside A are degraded to the diterpenoid aglycone steviol by rat intestinal microflora in vitro. Additional studies with steviol-17-[¹⁴C] show almost total absorption from the rat lower bowel following intracecal administration.A preliminary report of this work was presented at the annual meeting of the Federated American Societies for Experimental Biology, Dallas 1979. Small intestinal absorption ofd-galactose and water in fasted and alloxan diabetic rats

Zusammenfassung Leerdarm- und Krummdarm-Aufsaugung vond-Galaktose und Wasser wurde mit einer Pumpendurchströmung in vivo bei normalen und Alloxan-diabetischen Ratten geprüft. 24 Stunden Fasten erhöhte die Aufnahmefähigkeit normaler Ratten, ergab aber keinen Unterschied zwischen normalen Ratten beim Fasten und solchen, die mit Alloxan für 24, 48 und 72 Stunden diabetisch wurden.

Haemoglobin Bohr effect and lactic acid content of the blood of 2 water-snakes with different degrees of aquatic adaptation

Summary H. modestus, a water-snake with morphological respiratory adaptation to its habitat, presents haemoglobins with a lower Bohr effect than those ofL. miliaris, an aquatic snake without such respiratory adaptations. The difference in blood lactic acid content of the 2 snakes submitted to mechanical stimuli appears to be compatible with the properties of their haemoglobins.Suported in part by FAPESP-Proc. 76/1338     

Betaine excretion by the new-born infant

Zusammenfassung Ein Betain wurde in grösseren Mengen im aufgefangenen Urin gesunder Säuglinge und ebenfalls im Urin einiger älterer Kinder mit allgemeiner Aminoacidurie gefunden. Die Substanz besitzt eine Aktivität, welche die Inhibition desBacillus subtilis durch-2-Thiophenalanin verhindert. Ihre Aktivität gleicht derjenigen des Phenylalanins und der Phenylbrenztraubensäure, unterscheidet sich jedoch von diesen dadurch, dass die-2-Thiophenalanin-Inhibition verhindert wurde, wenn Sporen desBacillus subtilis als Erreger verwendet wurden.
