Humoral creatinine in walleye ( Stizostedion vitreum )

Published fish blood parameters are limited to commercially cultured species (e.g. rainbow trout [ Oncorhynchus mykiss ] and channel catfish [ Ictalurus punctatus ]). However, as walleye ( Stizostedion vitreum ) and other fish increase in value to the angler, hatchery and fish managers will require data on these species. Blood sera were collected from live walleye in the field, creatinine values were determined colorimetrically, and health range values were established from these data. Creatinine levels of walleye serum (0.06-0.72 mg/dl) were higher in three species but lower than recognized in a recent catfish study. Creatinine levels may be important in predicting diseases in which the kidney is adversely affected.

Summary Eels with dermal tumors, consisting mainly of undifferentiated epidermal cells, have been treated with inorganic diphosphate. Depending on concentration of the diphosphate used, the tumors show either an increased number of mucous cells or they are repelled. In the adjacent tissue of the cutis, during these processes, a great number of lymphocytes and macrophages are found. Three possibilities are offered to explain these facts, the most important of which is that the diphosphate increases the ability of the tumor cells to redifferentiate. Consequently, formation of tumor specific antigens is induced, as a result of which the tumor is destroyed by an immunbiological reaction.

Zusammenfassung Der Glyzerin-Schutz der Zellen gegen Schäden beim Gefrieren und Auftauen wird mittels einer Komplexbildung zwischen Glyzerin und Metallionen erklärt. Elektron-Spin-Resonanz-Untersuchungen bestätigen die Bildung eines solchen Komplexes.     

Innovations in processing and exposure control in radioautography

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine einfache Methode für die Vorbereitung und Belichtung von Objektträgern zur Autoradiographie beschrieben. Eine individuelle Behandlung der Objektträger sowie deren Vertrocknung vor der Belichtung wird vermieden und die Feuchtigkeitskontrolle der Emulsion ist gesichert.

A biochemical mechanism for the production of abnormal tetrad ratios

Zusammenfassung Hydrolytische Deaminierung der Purinbasen ist eine mögliche Erklärung der beobachteten Mutation. Jene lässt sichin vitro durch HNO₂ oder durch Ultraviolettlicht in Gegenwart von Alkali erzielen. Die entstehenden Hydroxy-Purinbasen kann man durch Ammoniak in Gegenwart von Amino-Purinbasen reaminieren. Eine Theorie zur Erklärung des beobachteten Phänomens wird vorgeschlagen und genetische Folgen werden besprochen.

Reproduction in urodeles II. Observations on the spermatheca

Zusammenfassung Die Spermatheca des Weibchens zeigt bei den untersuchten Urodelen eine innige Beziehung zu den Spermien, so dass eine Ernährungsfunktion der Spermatheca wahrscheinlich gemacht werden kann. Es wird auf die Sertoli-Zellen der Mammalia verwiesen.

Influence of serotonin on the radiation sensitivity of lactate dehydrogenase

Zusammenfassung Die Veränderungen in der Strahlenempfindlichkeit von Milchsäuredehydrogenase durch Serotonin, gebraucht als Serotonin-Kreatinin-Sulfat, wurden spektralphotometrisch untersucht. Die Bestrahlungsdosen variierten zwischen 0–9 · 10⁵ R. Die Serotonin-Konzentrationen variierten zwischen 0–1,23 mM. Die D³⁷-Dosis für eine Serotonin-Konzentration von 246M ist ca. 34mal grösser als für die Kontrollen. Der Schutzeffekt kann durch eine Komplexbildung zwischen Serotonin und den Metallionen, die im Enzym-Molekül vorhanden sind, erklärt werden.

Zusammenfassung Bei Mäusen unterbricht 5-Azacytidin die Schwangerschaft, und ist maximal wirksam zwischen 4.–6. Graviditätstag.
