Eine signifikant erhöhte Akkumulation der Radioaktivität nach¹³¹I-HCG-Verabreichung wurde im Ovarium, dem Uterus, der Hypophyse und der Schilddrüse festgestellt.     

An Archaean heavy bombardment from a destabilized extension of the asteroid belt

The barrage of comets and asteroids that produced many young lunar basins (craters over 300 kilometres in diameter) has frequently been called the Late Heavy Bombardment (LHB). Many assume the LHB ended about 3.7 to 3.8 billion years (Gyr) ago with the formation of Orientale basin. Evidence for LHB-sized blasts on Earth, however, extend into the Archaean and early Proterozoic eons, in the form of impact spherule beds: globally distributed ejecta layers created by Chicxulub-sized or larger cratering events4. At least seven spherule beds have been found that formed between 3.23 and 3.47?Gyr ago, four between 2.49 and 2.63?Gyr ago, and one between 1.7 and 2.1?Gyr ago. Here we report that the LHB lasted much longer than previously thought, with most late impactors coming from the E belt, an extended and now largely extinct portion of the asteroid belt between 1.7 and 2.1 astronomical units from Earth. This region was destabilized by late giant planet migration. E-belt survivors now make up the high-inclination Hungaria asteroids. Scaling from the observed Hungaria asteroids, we find that E-belt projectiles made about ten lunar basins between 3.7 and 4.1?Gyr ago. They also produced about 15 terrestrial basins between 2.5 and 3.7?Gyr ago, as well as around 70 and four Chicxulub-sized or larger craters on the Earth and Moon, respectively, between 1.7 and 3.7?Gyr ago. These rates reproduce impact spherule bed and lunar crater constraints.     

Project Management Supports (Requisitely) Holistic: Socially Responsible Action in Business Systems

This article emphasizes the role of projects and project management in assuring socially responsible acting of contemporary business systems, presenting some practical applications in the field of tourism. With arising number of projects in business systems and their growing strategic importance, the role of project management has radically been changing for the last two decades. Managing organizations, as a central topic among seven crucial topics in ISO 26000 on social responsibility, is strongly associated with managing projects. Projects have important influence on the established as well as on establishing ongoing operations and are important tools in assuring business systems’ strategic development, by exposing interdependences and supporting the requisitely holistic approach. This article tries to fill the gap we detected in literature on social responsibility where projects and project management seem not to have a proper role. Four different links and interdependencies between project management and systems theory (which ISO 26000 reinforces) are exposed: (1) systemic treatment of project management, (2) systematical treatment of projects as holistic works, (3) systemic treatment of projects as parts of BSs’ strategies, (4) systemic treatment of projects throughout their entire life cycle.     

Fibrillation of tropoelastin induced by proteoglycan

Summary Electrostatic interaction between tropoelastin, the native precursor of elastin, and proteoglycan results in tropoelastin fibrillation. The finding suggests a possible involvement of proteoglycans in elastogenesis.     

Histochemical evidence for the presence of dipeptidylpeptidase IV in the Schwann cells of skin uymyelinated axons

Summary DPP IV activity was localized in the nerve fascicles of cat glabrous skin at light and electron microscope levels. The observation that the DPP IV end product was restricted to the axon-Schwann cell interface suggests that this enzyme may be involved in the interactions between unmyelinated axons and their Schwann cells.17 November 1986     

Fricker on testimonial justification

Elizabeth Fricker has recently proposed a principle aimed at stating the necessary and sufficient conditions for testimonial justification. Her proposal entails that a hearer is justified in believing a speaker’s testimony only if she recognizes the speaker to be trustworthy, which, given Fricker’s internalist commitments, requires the hearer to have within her epistemic purview grounds which justify belief in the speaker’s trustworthiness. We argue that, as it stands, Fricker’s principle is too demanding, and we propose some amendments to it. We further discuss the viability of her internalist approach to testimony.     

Bluff body flow-induced noise control with sliding plasma actuators

Sliding plasma actuators were used to control the flow-induced broadband noise radiating from a bluff body. The structure consisted of a cylinder and a torque link that was installed on the lee side of the cylinder. The objective was to reduce the noise generated during the cylinder wake impinging on the torque link. By manipulating cylinder wake with the externally-imposed body force generated by the plasma actuators, the flow-structure interaction was reduced, leading to an attenuation of the broadband noise up to 3 dB in overall sound pressure level at a free stream speed of 30 m/s.     

Quantum engineering: an atom-sorting machine

Laser cooling and trapping techniques allow us to control and manipulate neutral atoms. Here we rearrange, with submicrometre precision, the positions and ordering of laser-trapped atoms within strings by manipulating individual atoms with optical tweezers. Strings of equidistant atoms created in this way could serve as a scalable memory for quantum information.     

Perinatal changes of the activity of acyl-CoA: Monoglyceride acyltransferase in the rat intestinal mucosa

Zusammenfassung Die Aktivität der Acyl-CoA: Monoglycerid Acyltransferase, eines Enzymes, das in der Esterifizierung der freien Fettsäuren eine wichtige Rolle spielt, wurde während der perinatalen Entwicklungsperiode der Ratte in der Dünndarmschleimhaut bestimmt. Im Foetus ist die Aktivität niedrig, steigt nach der Geburt und zeigt in der Mitte der Säuglingsperiode die höchsten Werte, die 2–3mal höher sind, als bei Erwachsenen. Die Befunde werden im Bezug auf die niedrige Lipaseaktivität des gastrointestinalen Traktes sowie auf die hohe Fettaufnahme während der Säuglingsperiode diskutiert.
