Effects of precocene II and juvenile hormone III on the activity of neurosecretory A-cells inOncopeltus fasciatus

Summary Application of precocene II, topically or by contact method, appears to inhibit the synthetic activity of neurosecretory A-cells of the pars intercerebralis ofOncopeltus fasciatus. Treatment of precocene-treated insects with JH III apparently stimulates the secretory activity of these cells.Supported by National Research Council of Canada grant No. A4669.We thank Dr G. B. Comparison of the localization of several muscle proteins in relaxed and contracted myofibrils.

The localization of several muscle proteins in relaxed and contracted myofibrils is compared. The morphology of the myofibrils and the behavior of these proteins was also investigated under extraction conditions.     

Modification of clonazepam anticonvulsive activity by its association with other anti-epileptic drugs

Summary The modification of the anti-epileptic activity of clonazepam by other anticonvulsivants is studied. The results vary according to the drug and technique used. The usefulness of the 2 techniques employed is discussed.     

A simple procedure for removal of intra- and extra-tumoral macrophages from primary tumor cultures

Summary Improved growth of tumor cells in primary cell suspensions isolated from solid tumors can be achieved by addition of an antifungal agent, mycostatin, to the culture medium. Mycostatin inhibits the cytotoxicity of macrophages and also quickly detaches phagocytes without any apparent retardation of the growth of tumor cells. This method is particularly useful for obtaining cultures of lung tumor cells or cells from lung metastases of other tumors.This research was supported in part by grants CA-22839 and CA-28482 awarded by the National Cancer Institute, DHEW, USA. Development of oxidative metabolism in the non-innervated optic lobe of the chick.

Early removal of the optic cup of the chick embryo prevents innervation of the contralateral optic lobe. This reduces the rate of development od citrate synthetase. The posthatch increase of the level of this enzyme related to oxidative metabolism is not impaired by denervation of the chick optic lobe.     

Effect of chemical sympathectomy,adrenalectomy and adrenergicα- andβ-blocking agents on the development of hyperglycemia induced by streptozotocin in the rat

Summary The sympathetic nervous system in the rat does not play any significant role in the streptozotocin-induced and tolbutamipe-induced hypoglycemia.     

Demonstration of different metabolic pathways starting with glucose or fructose in Rhizobium meliloti]

Rhizobium meliloti can produce many polysaccharides on D-fructose and D-mannitol. In glucose-grown cultures, few polysaccharides are observed and 2 keto-gluconate is accumulated.
