Enhancement of virus growth produced by thiols and disulphides

Summary Several thiols and disulphides have been found able both to shorten the latency phase and to increase the growth of several virus strains in cell cultures.This work has been supported by a grant of Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Roma (Italy).     

Effects of anaesthesia and chronic catheterization on circulating levels of prostaglandins (PGE2 and PGF2a in dogs

Summary Chronic catheterization of aorta and inferior vena cava in dogs did not significantly affect circulating levels of prostaglandins (PGE₂ and PGF_2a ). Pentobarbital (30 mg/kg i.v.) anaesthesia produced a significant decrease in PGF_2a .This work was supported by INSERM (grant No. 76.5.183.5).We wish to thank Miss Laure Eloy and Mrs Annick Soubrier for their technical assistance.     

The effect of indole derivatives onMycobacterium tuberculosis

Résumé L'étude des effets de l'indole sur l'organismeM. tuberculosis hominis révéla qu'il est bactériostatiquein vitro etin vivo chez les cobayes infectés par lui (5 mg par jour pendant 15 jours). Les acides indol-acétiques et indolpropioniques sont aussi légèrement tuberculostatiques.     

The interaction of angiotensin with a binding factor in plasma

Résumé La liaison de l'angiotensine par les protéines plasmatiques est démontrée par dialyse équilibrée. L'angiotensine radioactive liée ne put être déplacée par l'angiotensine non radioactive, ce qui diminue la signification physiologique de cette liaison.

Augenrückbildung und Lichtstinn beiAnoptichthys jordani Hubbs und Innes

Summary After hatching, young individuals of the Mexican blind characinAnoptichthys jordani Hubbs and Innes possess small, movable eyes. In the course of growth, the eyes are overlapped by skinfolds and tend to sink into the depth of the orbital cavity. Lens and pupilar opening may disappear and degeneration is to be found in the retina.Even very young blind characins seem to have no vision of movements, while they are able to perceive light. The lower limit is about 0.12 Lux of light intensity. Experiments concerning the localisation of this perception of light are in progress.
