Lushan M_S7.0 earthquake:A blind reserve-fault event

In the epicenter of the Lushan MS7.0 earthquake there are several imbricate active reverse faults lying from northwest to southeast,namely the Gengda-Longdong,Yanjing-Wulong,Shuangshi-Dachuan and Dayi faults.Emergency field investigations have indicated that no apparent earthquake surface rupture zones were located along these active faults or their adjacent areas.Only brittle compressive ruptures in the cement-covered pavements can be seen in Shuangshi,Taiping,Longxing and Longmen Townships,and these ruptures show that a local crustal shortening occurred in the region during the earthquake.Combining spatial distribution of the relocated aftershocks and focal mechanism solutions,it is inferred that the Lushan earthquake is classified as a typical blind reverse-fault earthquake,and it is advised that the relevant departments should pay great attention to other historically un-ruptured segments along the Longmenshan thrust belt and throughout its adjacent areas.     

Atomic packing and short-to-medium range order evolution of Zr-Pd metallic glass

A larger-scale Zr₇₀Pd₃₀ alloy system has been simulated using molecular dynamics (MD) to investigate structure evolution in Zr₇₀Pd₃₀ metallic glass. The simulated pair distribution function of Zr₇₀Pd₃₀ metallic glass agrees well with the experimental results. Voronoi polyhedron analysis indicates that the icosahedra are not randomly distributed in space, but form characteristic intercrossed icosahedral clusters with medium-range order. Intercrossed icosahedral clusters are the dominant local configurations in Zr₇₀Pd₃₀ metallic glass and probably cause the quasicrystalline phase discovered in Zr₇₀Pd₃₀ metallic glass.     

Fine-mapping of SRT7 for short roots and identification of its candidate in rice

Three allelic short root mutants were identified by screening mutants with defective root elongation of the rice japonica cultivar Nipponbare mutant library generated via 60 Co γ-ray irradiation mutagenesis. These mutants, designated srt7-1 (short root 7-1), srt7-2 and srt7-3, respectively, had an extremely short seminal root, adventitious roots and lateral roots. 优化了一株壳聚糖酶高产菌株的碳源、氮源、装瓶量、接种量和初始pH值等产酶发酵条件,并进行了正交实验。实验结果表明,最佳发酵条件为:几丁质2.5%,(NH4)2SO40.4%,酵母粉0.7%,pH值为5.5。优化后酶活由原来的454.03 U/mL提高至604.60 U/mL,提高量为优化前的33.16%。
