Role of serum components in the binding and phagocytosis of oxidatively damaged erythrocytes by autologous mouse macrophages

To investigate the role of autologous serum components in the recognition of damaged cells by macrophages, we examined the binding and phagocytosis of damage oxidatively damaged red blood cells with Cu2+ and ascorbate (oxRBCs) by autologous resident mouse peritoneal macrophages. The binding of oxRBCs by macrophages was independent of the presence of serum. However, phagocytosis by macrophages increased with serum concentration, and macrophages showed little ingestion of oxRBCs in a serum-free medium. Macrophages neither bound nor appreciably ingested native RBCs (before oxidation) in either the absence or presence of autologous serum. Mouse macrophages ingested significantly more native as well as oxRBCs in the presence of heat-inactivated fetal calf serum than in the presence of heat-inactivated mouse serum. Pretreated oxRBCs with normal serum were rarely ingested by macrophages in a serum-free medium. Phagocytosis of oxRBCs was significantly inhibited by depletion of IgG or calcium from serum, by heat inactivation of complement, or by antiserum against mouse C3. These results demonstrate that serum components such as IgG, C3, and calcium are involved in phagocytosis of oxRBCs by autologous macrophages.     

Recognition and sensing of anions through synergistic effects using simple benzimidazolium-urea receptors

Benzimidazolium-based receptors 1-3 were designed and synthesized. On the basis of fluorescence, UV-Vis, and 1H NMR spectroscopic studies, and X-ray single crystal structure analysis, it was confirmed that the receptor 1 displays strong (C-H)+···X, N-H···X hydrogen bonds and charge-charge interactions with anions. More importantly, these investigations demonstrated that the charged (C-H)+ benzimidazolium and urea moieties play a synergistic role in anion recognition.     

进城农民工子女学校适应性研究——基于安徽省合肥市29中的一项调查研究

以合肥市29中的271名初中生为被试,采用问卷法和访谈法对进城农民工子女的学校适应性进行调查研究。研究结果：（1）进城农民工子女总体学校适应性不高;（2）被试在适应性量表中的行事效率和人际疏离维度上存在明显的性别差异,男生明显高于女生;（3）被试在适应性量表中各维度上存在明显的年级差异;（4）经过访谈发现,被试渴求得到社会各界的关爱。     

Food and habitat relationships of Claassenia sabulosa (Plecoptera: Perlidae) in the Upper Colorado River, Colorado

Streambed surveys were conducted along the upper Colorado River, Colorado, to describe the distributions of Claassenia sabulosa larvae in relation to current speed and to determine their diets. We also addressed diel feeding periodicity by sampling during both day and night. Claassenia sabulosa was more abundant in riffle habitats than in runs. A positive relationship existed between C. sabulosa abundance and stream current, with larval size increasing with current speed. Chironomidae, Baetidae, and Simulidae collectively accounted for 93% of the prey found in stonefly guts; however, these categories were not consumed equally by all C. sabulosa . Smaller C. sabulosa primarily ate chironomids, and larger individuals consumed more baetids. Only a slight difference existed in the percentage of empty guts between night- and day-collected stoneflies, and ranges of prey per gut at night were higher than those in the day, suggesting that these stoneflies may forage more intensively at night.

可摘局部义齿不同加载条件下的三维有限元分析

为分析对比3种可摘局部义齿修复重建肯氏I类缺失牙列的生物力学效果，对中国力学虚拟人数据库中现有模型进行改建，以此为基础形成三臂卡环固位、RPI卡环固位和种植体支持的RPI卡环固位3种不同方案的几何及有限元模型，导入ABAQUS6.5 1完成相应有限元分析，采用垂直载荷和斜向载荷，较好地模拟了口腔咀嚼过程.分析结果表明，RPI卡环固位义齿对抗垂直载荷与斜向载荷能力均优于三臂卡环固位义齿；有种植体支持的RPI卡环固位义齿对抗斜向载荷能力优于无种植体支持的RPI卡环固位义齿.

Vegetation effects on mean daily maximum and minimum surface air temperatures over China

Changes in the daily maximum (Tmax) and minimum (Tmin) surface air temperatures and the associated temperature extremes have severe consequences on human society and the natural environment. In this study, we assess vegetation effects on mean Tmax and Tmin over China by computing a vegetation feedback parameter using the satellite-sensed Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and observed temperatures for the period 1982–2002. In all seasons, vegetation exerts a much stronger forcing on Tmax than on Tmin, and thus has a substantial effect on the diurnal temperature range (DTR) over China. Significant positive feedbacks on Tmax and the DTR occupy many areas of China with the feedback parameters exceeding 1°C (0.1 NDVI)–1, while significant negative effects only appear over the summertime climatic and ecological transition zone of northern China and some other isolated areas. Also, the vegetation feedbacks are found to vary with season. In areas where significant feedbacks occur, vegetation contributes to typically 10%–30% of the total variances in Tmax, Tmin, and the DTR. These findings suggest that vegetation memory offers the potential for improving monthly-to-seasonal forecasting of Tmax and Tmin, and the associated temperature extremes over China. Meanwhile, the limitations and uncertainties of the study should be recognized.
