Unstable genetic system inDrosophila melanogaster: I. Instability at theCinnabar locus

Summary A mutant strain containing acinnabar allele (cn ^rbr ,rojo brillante) is reported, that produces wild-type revertants at thecinnabar (cn) locus. Incn ^rbr /cn heterozygotes the rate of mutation is highly increased. The presence of a mutator agent acting premeiotically is indicated.D.L. Lindsley and E.H. Ethylene production and cell wall formation in mesophyll protoplasts

Summary The regulation of ethylene synthesis, in relation to the presence of a new cell wall, has been investigated forNicotiana sylvestris leaf protoplasts. It is clear that the production of ethylene is not controlled by the new wall, which has no action on the ethylene formation. The addition of dichlorobenzonitrile to cultivated protoplasts causes the inhibition of wall formation, without any other apparent deleterious effects.     

Dehydroacetic acid in anthers ofSolandra nitida (Solanaceae)

Summary The chloroform extract of anthers ofSolandra nitida contains 3-acethyl-6-methyl-1,2-pyran-2,4(3H)dione (dehydroacetic acid) as one of the main products.     

Does tenotomy of skeletal muscle alter Z-line width in older animals?

Summary Results of unilateral achilles tenotomy on older (350–410 g) male rats, showed that the general width of Z-lines in the tenotomized muscles was not significantly altered by this procedure. Streaming of the Z-lines and rod formations was still present, as in younger rats.This investigation was supported in part by NIH grants 1-RO1-NS-14033 and 1-T32-07224.
