Non-synaptic chemical neurotransmission

Summary Images with apparently gemmulofugal polarity in the EPL of the olfactory bulb are the result of sectioning, along misleading planes, gemmulopetal synapses containing postsynaptic vesicles. Unless one accepts a bidirectional conduction for chemical synapses, the internal granule cells lack actual gemmulofugal synapses and the neurotransmitter contained in their vesicles must act at non-synaptic membranes.Supported by grant MA4183 of the Medical Research Council of Canada.     

EEG synchronization produced by peripheral nerve stimulation

Riassunto La stimolazione a 3–8/sec di nervi cutanei e muscolari, eseguita in gatti integri non anestetizzati, produce una sincronizzazione dell'attività elettrica cerebrale. La soglia per questa risposta corrisponde in media a 0,4–0,9 volte l'intensità minima di corrente che applicata allo stesso nervo e in analoghe condizioni sperimentali produce la reazione di risveglio.

Résumé Une hypophyse greffée autoplastiquement dans la chambre antérieure de l'il, dans lemanus ou dans letarsus s'est avérée capable de remplacer l'hypophysein situ dans son action sur la régénération et la survie chez le Triton, à condition que s'établisse une vascularisation satisfaisante du greffon et que la durée de l'expérience ne dépasse pas plusieurs mois.     

Resistance of cold-exposed rats to aflatoxin

Summary Male rats kept at a temperature of 4°–5°C were refractory to a lethal dose of aflatoxin compared to animals at 20°–21°C which exhibited a high mortality and marked liver damage. It is suggested that this decreased susceptibility is mediated through a stimulated microsomal drug-metabolizing system in cold environment.
