Opposite effects of one and three injections of cortisone or thyroxine on intestinal lactase activity in suckling mice

Summary A single injection of cortisone or thyroxine to 8-day-old suckling mice initiates a temporary decrease of lactase activity. On the contrary, 3 injections of cortisone or thyroxine provoke a significant increase of lactase activity. It appears that the mechanism which controls the postnatal development of lactase in suckling animals is more complex than expected.Supported by grant MA-5969 from the Medical Research Council of Canada to D. Relations phénétiques entre les familles d'Hamamelididae

Summary The phenetic relationships between the families of the Hamamelididae subclass were studied by using the following multifactorial analytical methods: principal components analysis (PCA) and reciprocal averaging (RA). The results obtained agree appreciably with Takhtajan's classification system.

Effet du fluoroacétate et des rayons X sur la teneur en acide citrique du foie de la souris

Summary In contrast to rats, male mice injected with sodium fluoroacetate accumulate citrate in their livers, whereas females do not. Whole-body irradiation reduces the level of accumulated citrate in the liver as well as in other tissues of the mouse.     

Blood-brain barrier damage and prolonged cerebral hyperemia following changes in cerebral perfusion pressure; an experimental EEG study

Résumé En expérimentant sur le chien, l'on peut produire des lésions de la barrière hémo-encéphalique aussi bien en diminuant qu'en élevant la pression de perfusion cérébrale. Ainsi l'administration d'un produit épileptogène tel que la Pénicilline déclenche des crises comitiales alors que celle-ci est normalement arrêtée par la barrière hémoencéphalique lorsque cette dernière est intacte. En clinique, des cas d'épilepsie de même mécanisme ont été demontrés.
