Zusammenfassung Von drei vonChilocorus stigma wies ein Tier eine (A), eines zwei (A, B) und das dritte drei (A, B, C) zentrische Fusionen auf; 2n war 26, 25 und 24. Beim mit 2n = 24 sind mindestens zwei Bivalente heterozygot. Abgesehen vom Unterschied der Geschlechtschromosomen (XX: XO) sind daher 243 verschiedene chromosomale Typen möglich. 2n wird von 21 () zu 28 () variieren. Weitere Fusionen bei den Chromosomen der heterozygoten Paare würden zu 2n = 19 führen, während sich nach andern Fusions-Kombinationen Ringkomplexe bilden müssten.

Résumé L'irradiation UV d'une solution de sulfocyanate d'ammonium, glycine et fer dans l'eau de mer artificielle a produit des microsphères semblables à des cellules douées d'activité catalytique péroxidasique. La glycine a augmenté l'activité catalytique du fer, comme cela purrait s'être produit au cours de l'evolution dans la première étape de cette réaction de catalyse par le fer. On a observé des faits semblables avec un modèle à élément photosynthétique primitif.     

Generation of radio waves in pulsars

Pulsars generate radio waves by an unknown process which gives the highest volume emissivity known in astrophysics. The radiation forms a beam the width and polarization of which are independent of frequency. This article assembles the observational facts which any theory of emission must explain.     

Allele losses in the region 17q12-21 in familial breast and ovarian cancer involve the wild-type chromosome.

A predisposing gene for breast and ovarian cancer has recently been mapped to chromosome 17q12-21. If this gene is a tumour suppressor gene, allele losses would be expected in the tumours of affected family members and the losses should affect the wild-type chromosome, reflecting the need for inactivation of the wild-type allele at the predisposing locus. In four multiple case breast-ovarian cancer families, we have found that in each of nine tumours which showed allele losses, the losses were from the wild-type chromosome. This suggests that the putative 'breast-ovarian' cancer gene is indeed a tumour suppressor gene.
