An LFA-3 cDNA encodes a phospholipid-linked membrane protein homologous to its receptor CD2

Recently the human T cell erythrocyte receptor CD2 has been shown to bind human erythrocytes through LFA-3, a heavily glycosylated surface protein of broad tissue distribution. CD2-LFA-3 interactions are important for cytolytic conjugate formation, for thymocyte adhesion, and for T cell activation. A complementary DNA clone encoding LFA-3 was isolated using a complementary DNA clone encoding LFA-3 was isolated using a novel transient expression system of mouse cells. The cDNA encodes a phospholipid-linked membrane protein whose extracellular domain shares significant homology with CD2. As CD2 is homologous with the neural cell adhesion molecule NCAM in immunoglobulin-like domains, cellular adhesion molecules in both neural and lymphoid tissues could have a common ancestor.     

油菜菌核病流行预测模型研究

根据重庆市秀山县1999年至2013年气象和油菜菌核病病情数据,采用逐步回归分析法,建立秀山县油菜菌核病叶病株率和病情指数预测模型.结果表明,秀山地区油菜菌核病叶病株率与2月下旬降雨量、3月上旬降雨量、4月日照、1月雨日、2月中旬温度和3月中旬温度呈负相关,病情指数与4月上旬温度、4月雨日和4月日照呈负相关,与2月下旬湿度和2月上旬湿度呈正相关.所建立的预测模型、历史回测检验结果拟合程度高,预测准确率高.     

The effects of tryptophol on immune responses and its implications toward trypanosome-induced immunosuppression

Summary Daily administrations of tryptophol to laboratory rodents resulted in significantly depressed antibody production to heterologous red blood cell challenge, but did not alter cellular-mediated responses to oxazalone. These results suggest that trypanosome-produced tryptophol may account for the immunodepression observed during trypanosomiasis.     

油菜不同部位分枝籽粒生产力对氮肥反应的差异

研究了不同氮肥用量对杂交油菜“秦油2号“主序及各分枝生产力的影响.结果表明, 随着氮肥用量的增加,主序产量占单株产量的比例逐渐降低,施氮量过大则又略有回升.主序籽粒约占产量1/4时,单株产量最高;在不同氮肥用量下,上部分枝生产力的变化趋势类似于主序,而中部分枝则与全株一致;在分枝产量构成因素中,氮肥用量对分枝角果数的影响最大;主序及上位分枝中氮素累积量受氮肥用量的影响程度较小,而中下位分枝则较大.     

ICAM, an adhesion ligand of LFA-1, is homologous to the neural cell adhesion molecule NCAM

Antigen-specific cell contacts in the immune system are strengthened by antigen-nonspecific interactions, mediated in part by lymphocyte-function associated (LFA) antigens. The LFA-1 antigen is widely expressed on cells of haematopoietic origin and is a major receptor of T cells, B cells and granulocytes. LFA-1 mediates the leukocyte adhesion reactions underlying cytolytic conjugate formation, helper T-cell interactions, and antibody-dependent killing by natural killer cells and granulocytes. Recently, ICAM-1 (intercellular adhesion molecule-1) has been defined as a ligand for LFA-1. Monoclonal antibodies to ICAM-1 block T lymphocyte adhesion to fibroblasts and endothelial cells and disrupt the interaction between cytotoxic T cells and target cells. In addition, purified ICAM-1 reconstituted into artificial membranes binds LFA-1+ cells. ICAM-1 is found on leukocytes, fibroblasts, epithelial cells and endothelial cells and its expression is regulated by inflammatory cytokines. LFA-1 has been placed in the integrin family of cell surface receptors by virtue of the high sequence similarity between the LFA-1 and integrin beta chains. The adhesion ligands of the integrin family are glycoproteins bearing the Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) sequence motif, for example, fibronectin, fibrinogen, vitronectin and von Willebrand factor. Here we show that a complementary DNA clone ICAM-1 contains no RGD motifs, but instead is homologous to the neural cell adhesion molecule NCAM.

Scientific chemical production on a commercial scale was evident in Britain in the early nineteenth century. One of the first palaeotechnic chemical industries was the manufacture of synthetic alkali. By 1823 a well-defined pattern of soda production had emerged. An understanding of this initial distribution is important as those areas associated with the early growth of the synthetic alkali industry showed a remarkable continuity of inorganic chemical production for the remainder of the century. The paper attempts to consider those factors which contributed to this selective regional response, and in doing so, a number of interesting factors of location are revealed.
