Synthesis of rhodotorucine A,the inducing factor of mating tube formation ofRhodosporidium toruloides

Summary The inducing factor of mating tube formation ofRhodosporidium turuloides, named rhodotorucine A (H-Tyr-Pro-Glu-Ile-Ser-Trp-Thr-Arg-Asn-Gly-Cys(S-farnesyl)-OH), has been synthesized to confirm the structure proposed for the natural lipopeptide. The synthetic S-farnesyl undecapeptide has identical Rf values on TLC using several different solvents, and also the same biological activity as the natural hormone.Acknowledgments. Effect of prostaglandin E1 on cholesterol biosynthesis in rat liver

Riassunto La prostaglandina E₁ (PGE₁) ha un duplice effetto sulla sintesi epatica del colesterolo: a basse concentrazioni determina un incremento della incorporazione di acetato in colesterolo, mentre a concentrazini superiori a 50 nmoli essa determina una riduzione di questo paramentro.     

Additive and synergistic inhibition of mammalian microsomal enzyme functions by piperonyl butoxide,safrole and other methylenedioxyphenyl derivatives

Zusammenfassung Piperonylbutoxyd, Methylendioxylanilin, Methyleugenol, Safranol und Vanillylamin bewirken eine additive Hemmung der Funktion mikrosomaler Enzyme in Mäusen, wenn sie zusammen in Dosen verabreicht werden, die einzeln inaktiv sind. Piperonylbutoxyd und Safranol induzieren synergistisch die Hemmung von Aminopyrenedemethylase-Aktivität. Es erfolgte keine synergistische Hemmung nach kombinierter Behandlung mit Pib. und hohen Dosen der strukturell verwandten, aber inaktiven Piperonylsäure.

Effect of nicotine on the transmembrane potential and contractility of isolated rat atria

Zusammenfassung Die Wirkungen von Nikotin auf die Kontraktilität und die Membranpotentiale des Rattenatriums wurden untersucht. Nikotin (5 × 10^–4 M) erhöhte gleichzeitig die entwickelte Spannung sowie die Dauer und Fläche des Aktionspotentials. Ein möglicher Zusammenhang dieser Änderungen mit der erhöhten Kontraktilität wird diskutiert.

Protection by antioxidants against ozone toxicity in mice

Zusammenfassung 16 Antioxidantien wurden auf ihre Schutzwirkung gegen Ozontoxizität in Mäusen geprüft. AHQ, Primaquin und EMQ waren hochwirksam, BHA, NDGA und Ascarbinsäure mässig wirksam, und die übrigen zeigten keinen nennenswerten Effekt.

Centromere nature of the chromosomes ofRanatra (Heteroptera)

Zusammenfassung Histologisch-cytologische Untersuchungen zeigen, dass die Chromosomen vonRanatra monozentrisch sind. Der Befund steht im Gegensatz zu Ergebnissen anderer Autoren an andern Heteroptera-Arten, die polyzentrische Chromosomen haben. Die Natur des Centromers ist also bei verschiedenen Arten der Heteropteren verschieden.     

Dissociation of urease in acetate buffer of pH 3.5 with retention of the enzymatic activity

Riassunto Le molecole dell'urease (peso molecolare 480,000, coefficiente di sedimentazione 18,6 S) si dividono a metà quando trattate con tampone acetato, 0,1M, pH 3,5. Inizialmente, l'attività enzimatica è 40% di quella al pH 7 (tampone fosfato, 0,34M) e la dissociazione è riversibile. Prolungata esposizione al pH 3,5 causa una lenta denaturazione, con perdita dell'attività e dell'abilità di ricostituirsi.
