Dopamine-β-hydroxylase,adrenaline, noradrenaline and dopamine in the venous blood of adrenal gland of man: A comparison with levels in the periphery of the circulation

Summary In 10 human subjects plasma dopamine--hydroxylase activity was found in the adrenal vein blood to be as high as in the periphery of the circulation. Adrenaline concentration in the adrenal vein blood was in the mean 170 times, noradrenaline concentration 11 times and dopamine concentration little higher than levels in the periphery.This study was supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.     

Regulation of enzymes of ethanol metabolism in yeast (Rhodotorula gracilis)

Summary The three enzymes of ethanol metabolism alcohol dehydrogenase, aldehyde dehydrogenase and acetyl-CoA synthetase in the obligate aerobic yeastRhodotorula gracilis are repressed by glucose and induced by C₂ metabolic fuels with a regulatory pattern indicating a correlation in the control mechanisms. To try an identification of the molecular signals involved in the transmission of the inducing stimulus, experiments were carried out by blocking with 2 mM pyrazole the ethanol acetaldehyde metabolic step. Results indicate that ethanol is not specifically required as a molecular signal for induction.This work was supported by a grant from the Italian Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche.     

Poly(A) associated RNA from mitochondria and microsomes of rat brain

Summary Rat brain mitochondria contain a significant proportion of poly(A) associated RNA which is higher than that found in microsomes from the same source. When steady state poly(A) RNA of brain mitochondria was analyzed by microelectrophoresis, it displayed a characteristic separation pattern with a large amount of free poly(A).     

Influence of cyclic nucleotides on protein synthesis in vascular smooth muscle

Summary The incorporation of leucice-¹⁴C into protein in bovine mesenteric arteries was augmented by cyclic GMP (10^–3 M) and decreased by cyclic AMP (10^–3 M). There was no effect of 5 AMP (10^–3 M). The phosphodiesterase inhibiting drugs theophylline (10^–3 M) and papaverine (5×10^–5 g/ml) both decreased the leucine-¹⁴C incorporation.We are indebted to Mrs.Lena Burlin for hear assistance. Effect of air ionization on blood serotonin in vitro

Summary The effect of negative and positive air ionisation on siliconized blood serotonin was studied in vitro. The experiments showed that within 10 min positive ionisation increased serotonin levels in total blood (+40%), plasma (+90%), erythrocytes (+50%) and thrombocytes (+200%). On the other hand, negative ionization (10 min) lowered the serotonin content of total blood (–30%), plasma (–42.5%), erythrocytes (–41.7%) and thrombocytes (–72.3%), thus confirming the Krueger Effect in vitro.This research was generously supported by a grant from the Joint Research Fund of the Hebrew University and Hadassah, and Dr. and Mrs.Leonard Appleby of Palmbeach, Florida.Acknowledgment: Our thanks are due to Mr.B. 棒状杆菌ps1产生广谱抗真菌活性物质的初步研究

棒状杆菌psl能产生广谱抗真菌活性物质，对其活性物质的抗菌谱、产生条件和部分特性进行了初步研究。棒状杆菌psl产生的活性物质pschl对白色念珠菌、丝核菌、镰刀菌等多种真菌均有强烈抑制作用，并具有良好选择性。活性物质pschl耐热性好，pH改变对其活性影响较明显，酸性环境有利于其稳定但在碱性条件下容易失活。     

海洋枯草芽孢杆菌Bs-1产生多种抗真菌活性物质

从香港清水湾海域中分离到一株能产生抗酵母样真菌和革兰氏阳性菌抗生素的枯草芽孢杆菌菌株Bs—1。对Bs—1产生抗生素条件的研究表明，Bs—1在多种培养基中生长迅速，但只在PDB(马铃薯葡萄糖液体)中产生抗真菌活性物质；活性物质粗提液具有良好的耐热性和酸碱度，121℃加热15min及在pH2和pHl0处理24h仍有相当高的活性；对Bs—1产抗生素的营养条件和影响的理化因子进行了分析；最后用吸附、萃取、离子交换层析和RP-HPLC等技术对此菌的抗菌代谢产物进行纯化，结果发现Bs-1在PDB培养基中发酵时至少产生3种亲水性的抗真菌活性化合物，三在C18反相层析柱上的保留时间差别不大，对HPLC纯化后的其中一种化合物结构的初步分析表明，该化合物含有共轭双键但无任何氨基酸残基，与目前已知的枯草芽孢杆菌产生的抗生素都不相同，很可能是一种新的非肽类抗真菌化合物。
