Elektronenmikroskopische Beobachtungen bei experimenteller Poliomyelitis

Summary The lumbar motor columns of a cynomolgus monkey which had become tetraplegic after infection with a highly virulent strain of type 3 poliovirus were examined by electron microscopy. Within the cytoplasm of many endothelial cells of intraspinal blood vessels, as well as within the perikarya of numerous mononuclear inflammatory cells, there occurred regular arrays of dense particles which, on the basis of morphological evidence, could be identified as poliovirus crystals. The possible significance of virual replication by endothelial and mononuclear cells for poliovirus spread within the central nervous system is briefly discussed.     

Pancreozymin/cholecystokinin a physiological mediator of gastric secretory inhibition of duodenal origin

Résumé La Pancréozymine-cholécystokinine (PZ) augmente la sécrétion de l'acide gastrique stimulée par la méthacholine, mais diminue la réponse acide à la gastrine pentapeptide. L'acidification de l'anse Thiry-Vella du duodénum fait augmenter pareillement la sécrétion acide de la poche d'Heidenhain stimulée par la méthacholine et la diminue quand le stimulant est de la gastrine pentopeptide. Il est bien connu que l'acidification du duodénum libère le PZ de la muqueuse duodénale. Nos résultats suggèrent que le PZ est l'agent médiateur d'abaissement de l'acidité gastrique après acidification du duodénum.

Comparative histology of the vascular system in the domestic and game cock

Zusammenfassung Vergleichend-histologische Untersuchung der Darmbeingefässe bei Wildhühnern und der White-Rock-Rasse zeigen eine stärkere Entwicklung der Wildhuhngefässe. Es scheint, dass das gesamte Gefäß-system bei den Wildhühnern, in Anpassung an die erhöhte Herzfrequenz und den gesteigerten Blutdruck bei besondern Erregungszuständen, über Schutzmechanismen in der Gefässwand verfügt.     

An electron microscopy study of fat uptake by endothelial cells of doubly-ligated carotid artery segments

Zusammenfassung Die Endothelschicht von doppelt unterbundenen Abschnitten der A. carotis des Kaninchens wird 3 Tage nach der Unterbindung und Injektion von Intralipid (künstliche Fett-Emulsion) in das Lumen elektronenmikroskopisch untersucht. Die künstliche Hyperlipämie zusammen mit Hypoxie erzeugte eine starke Aufnahme von Fett in Form von intrazellulären Tröpfchen, die viel elektronendichter waren als die ursprünglichen Intralipid-Partikel. Ein morphologischer Hinweis auf den Mechanismus der Fettaufnahme wurde nicht gefunden.     

Fehlende Wasserstoff-Übertragung von Östradiol auf Androstendion im Diäthylnitrosamin-induzierten Hepatom der Ratte

Summary In liver-tissue of female rats estradiol-17 -T is oxydized by NAD or NADP, yielding the tritiumlabelled coenzymes NAD-T or NADP-T which can transfer the tritium to androstendione. So tritium-labelled androstandiol is obtained. Of the added activity 10–30% is oxydized to water. In diethylnitrosamine-induced hepatomas estradiol-17 -T is oxydized to tritium-water in a comparatively small amount and no transport of the tritium to reduction-products of androstendions occurs. Testing the in-vivo-oxydation of estradiol in normal female rats and in females with hepatoma with the aid of the Stoffwechsel-labil labelling (measuring the specific activity of tritium in body-water after injecting estradiol-17 -T) a lower oxydation-rate was also found in rats with hepatoma than in normal rats.
