On the Collision Detection Problem of Two Moving Objects Described by Algebraic Sets

In this paper, the collision problem of two moving objects is investigated. The objects are described by two algebraic sets （ellipses or circles in the paper）. The collision problem discussed involves both static and dynamic case. The static case is that each object moves with known velocity. We use nonlinear programming to decide whether the objects collide. The dynamic case is that each object is controlled by a constraint external force which can be regulated online. For the dynamic case, the collision problem can be modelled as a Minmax problem which can be solved by using differential games. If collision occurs, the time and place of the first collision are given. The moving trajectories are provided in the paper.     

Nest structure and all stages of the long-cheeked yellow jacket Dolichovespula intermedia Birula (Hymenoptera: Vespidae)

Nest structure, morphology of all stages and behaviour have contributed to the phylogenetic and taxonomic studies of social vespids. Two aerial nests of Dolichovespula intermedia were discovered in China. The morphology of the three castes, the five larval instars, and the nest structure of D. intermedia Birula, are described in detail and illustrated. The presence of only one campaniform sensillum above each labial palp and the dense minute spicules on the posterior gena found in D. intermedia larvae are mentioned here for the first time for Dolichovespula. The identification characters between D. intermedia and Dolichovespula sylvestris are briefly discussed.     

Variations on a theme: Clifford’s parallelism in elliptic space

In 1873, W. K. Clifford introduced a notion of parallelism in the three-dimensional elliptic space that, quite surprisingly, exhibits almost all properties of Euclidean parallelism in ordinary space. The purpose of this paper is to describe the genesis of this notion in Clifford’s works and to provide a historical analysis of its reception in the investigations of F. Klein, L. Bianchi, G. Fubini, and E. Bortolotti. Special emphasis is placed upon the important role that Clifford’s parallelism played in the development of the theory of connections.     

Mesenchymal–epithelial interactions during digestive tract development and epithelial stem cell regeneration

The gastrointestinal tract develops from a simple and uniform tube into a complex organ with specific differentiation patterns along the anterior–posterior and dorso-ventral axes of asymmetry. It is derived from all three germ layers and their cross-talk is important for the regulated development of fetal and adult gastrointestinal structures and organs. Signals from the adjacent mesoderm are essential for the morphogenesis of the overlying epithelium. These mesenchymal–epithelial interactions govern the development and regionalization of the different gastrointestinal epithelia and involve most of the key morphogens and signaling pathways, such as the Hedgehog, BMPs, Notch, WNT, HOX, SOX and FOXF cascades. Moreover, the mechanisms underlying mesenchyme differentiation into smooth muscle cells influence the regionalization of the gastrointestinal epithelium through interactions with the enteric nervous system. In the neonatal and adult gastrointestinal tract, mesenchymal–epithelial interactions are essential for the maintenance of the epithelial regionalization and digestive epithelial homeostasis. Disruption of these interactions is also associated with bowel dysfunction potentially leading to epithelial tumor development. In this review, we will discuss various aspects of the mesenchymal–epithelial interactions observed during digestive epithelium development and differentiation and also during epithelial stem cell regeneration.     

Whole genome sequencing as a means to assess pathogenic mutations in medical genetics and cancer

The past decade has seen the emergence of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, which have revolutionized the field of human molecular genetics. With NGS, significant portions of the human genome can now be assessed by direct sequence analysis, highlighting normal and pathological variants of our DNA. Recent advances have also allowed the sequencing of complete genomes, by a method referred to as whole genome sequencing (WGS). In this work, we review the use of WGS in medical genetics, with specific emphasis on the benefits and the disadvantages of this technique for detecting genomic alterations leading to Mendelian human diseases and to cancer.     

基于启发式的多机器人SLAM地图融合方法研究

同步定位和地图构建（simultaneous localization and mapping,SLAM）是移动机器人在未知环境中完成地图构建和定位任务的关键技术。针对多机器人SLAM中的地图融合问题,提出一种启发式的搜索方法引导局部地图的重复区域进行地图融合。每个机器人可以在不了解其相对位置的情况下建立局部地图,并将局部地图信息发送至同一工作站中,以局部地图的相似性为判断指标融合得到最优的全局地图。在机器人实物平台上进行验证,结果证明了多机器人SLAM的地图融合算法的有效性和准确性。
