Potentiation of the biological activities of daunomycin and adriamycin by ascorbic acid and dimethylsulfoxide

Summary L-Ascorbic acid (0.57 mM) and dimethylsulfoxide (14.1 mM) were found to potentiate four times the antibacterial activities of daunomycin and adriamycin in theStaphylococcus aureus test. This effect, however, could not be demonstrated against eukaryotic cells and leukemia P388 in mice. The authors thank Dr A. Maráz, Department of Microbiology, J.A. University, Szeged, and Dr Zs. Effect of a fraction of bovine hypothalamic extract on the release of TSH by rat adenohypophysesin vitro

Zusammenfassung Die elektrophoretisch isolierte Franktion des hypothalamischen Extraktes erhöhtin vitro die Sekretion des thyreotropen Hormons aus der Adenohypophyse der Ratte in der Krebs-Phosphat-Ringerlösung mit 300 mg% Glukose. Die Fraktion selbst besitzt keine TSH-Wirkung.     

A contribution on the effect of noradrenaline on heat production in mice

Zusammenfassung Bei ausgewachsenen Mäusen wurde nach i.p. Noradrenalininjektion die Steigerung der O₂-Aufnahme über den Grundumsatz in der Thermoneutralzone verfolgt. Nach einer Dosis von 1,6 mg/kg wurde ein bedeutender Unterschied (p < 0,05) der O₂-Aufnahmesteigerung zwischen der Gruppe normaler (155%) und normaler, auf 17°C adaptierter Mäuse (165%) und der Gruppe haarloser Mäuse (195%) festgestellt.

Chromosome arrangement throughout mitosis and interphase inAllium sativum (Liliaceae)

Summary Allium sativum (garlic) root-tip chromosomes were subjected to a C-banding procedure. In addition to the nucleolar bands reported previously in this species, bands which are telomeric or close to the telomeres have been detected in some pairs. This has allowed us to analyze the arrangement of chromosomes during interphase.
