On estimating contemporaneous quarterly regional GDP

Subnational regional jurisdictions rarely have at their disposal a reasonable array of timely statistics to monitor their economic condition. In light of this, we develop a procedure that simultaneously estimates a quarterly time series for all regions of a country based upon quarterly national and annual regional data. While other such techniques exist, we suggest a temporal error structure that eliminates possible spurious jumps. Using our approach, regional analysts should now be able to distribute national growth among regions as soon as quarterly national figures are released. In a Spanish application, we detail some practicalities of the process and show that our proposal produces better estimates than the uniregional methods often used. Dopamine-beta-hydroxylase activity in adrenal gland and spleen of rats after fasting and cold exposure

Summary Fasting (48 h) results in dopamine-beta-hydroxylase (DBH) release both in adrenal gland and spleen, suggestive of an increase in the activity of these organs. Cold exposure (48 h) produces a dissociation of the, sympathoadrenal response. When both stimuli are simultaneously employed, the DBH response suggests the preponderance of the response to fasting. Plasma DBH is decreased in all groups studied, this could be due to its half-life and the splenic DBH depletion.This work was supported by a grant of Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias de la Seguridad Social, No. 83/0905.

磷酸三丁酯-Span80-二甲苯乳状液膜迁移、富集稀土元素La(Ⅲ)的研究

用ＴＢＤ－Ｓｐａｎ８０－二甲苯乳状液膜体系研究了Ｌａ３＋的迁移行为，确定了完全、快速迁移Ｌａ３＋的条件．在该条件下，能够使Ｌａ３＋从常见过渡元素Ｆｅ３＋、Ｃｏ２＋、Ｎｉ２＋、Ｃｕ２＋、Ｃｄ２＋、Ｍｎ２＋、Ｚｎ２＋等离子的混合液中得到完全分离．     

离子交换法提取柠檬酸新工艺的研究

采用离子交换树脂(M型阴树脂、D61阳树脂)从发酵液中提取柠檬酸、工艺简单、提取收率可达90%以上,无废渣产生,有利于环境保护,且成品质量好,有工业应用价值。     

Allozyme polymorphism and linkage disequilibrium ofAdh and α-Gpdh loci in wine cellar and field populations ofDrosophila melanogaster

Summary Over three years, theAdh and -Gpdh loci have been studied in two cellar populations ofDrosophila melanogaster and in two field populations which were each near to one of the cellars. Analyses of gene frequencies indicate that the divergence among subpopulations is greater in theAdh locus than in the -Gpdh locus. Selection for or againstAdh ^S allele acting on theIn(2L)t inversion influences of the -Gpdh alleles. This phenomenon may contribute to explain the maintenance of theAdh and -Gpdh polymorphism and of theIn(2L)t inversion.     

A new method for obtaining blood from a small mammal without injuring the animal: use of Triatomid bugs

Summary By means of hungry Triatomid bugs, samples of blood (40–200l) can be obtained from small mammals, such as bats, without causing any harm to the animals. The blood can be extracted from the gaster of the bug immediately after the bug has finished sucking. The method was successfully used for measuring the energy budget by the doubly labeled water method, and for obtaining material for lymphocyte cultures, and may prove useful in other fields, too.M. Oxytalan fibres in human dental pulp

Summary Scarce and randomly oriented oxytalan fibres are present in the connective tissue of dental pulp in both deciduous and permanent teeth.This investigation was supported by grant No.V-10/78 from the SIZ-V of S. R. Croatia.
