Streptomycin and endocrine system

Zusammenfassung Auf Grund klinischer Erfahrungen, nach welchen anlässlich einer Streptomycintherapie verschiedene endokrine Störungen beobachtet werden konnten, wurden zur Klärung derselben Tierexperimente durchgeführt. Die Versuchsergebnisse deuten auf eine funktionelle Störung der Nebennierenrindenenzyme hin, hervorgerufen durch die Einwirkung des Antibiotikums, wobei die verschiedenen klinischen Symptome als Manifestationen der Verschiebung der normalen Hormonverhältnisse aufgefasst werden.     

Galactose induced Balbiani-ring-like structures in chromosomes I and II ofChironomus thummi

Summary In one strain ofChironomus thummi, galactose feeding of the larvae induced the appearance of 2 Balbiani-ring-like structures on salivary gland chromosomes I and II. This phenomenon may be related to the galactose induction of BR6 inC. pallidivittatus.     

Loss of redundant gene expression after polyploidization in plants

Summary Based on chromosomal location data of genes encoding 28 biochemical systems in allohexaploid wheat,Triticum aestivum L. (genomes AABBDD), it is concluded that the proportions of systems controlled by triplicate, duplicate, and single loci are 57%, 25%, and 18% respectively.     

Synthesis of the anomeric 9-(2-deoxy-1-D-glucosyl)-adenines and their anhydro derivatives

Zusammenfassung Synthesen von 9-(2-Deoxy-1-D-glukosyl)-adenin und 1-(9-Adenyl)-pseudo-D-glukal werden beschrieben. Diese Substanzen wirken bei der Maus erheblich antileukämisch.     

Adrenaline depletion induced by light in the dark-adapted retina

Resumen Una depleción inmediata de la adrenalina retiniana ocurre cuando sapos adaptados a la oscuridad son expuestos a una luz relativamente fuerte, alcanzándose un máximo en aproximadamente 5 min. La repleción de la adrenalina es más rápida cuando los animales, después de ser expuestos por 5 min a la luz, son devueltos a la oscuridad. En un período de 24 h la adrenalina alcanzó aproximadamente 85% de su valor original. Por otra parte, cuando los animales se mantienen expuestos a la luz, la repleción es más lenta y la adrenalina retiniana alcanza un máximo de sólamente 65% de su valor original en adaptación a la oscuridad.
