Concentration of "available" unesterified cholesterol in human plasma as evaluated from inhibition of hemolysis by lucensomycin.

The unesterified cholesterol content of plasma samples can be evaluated from the extent of inhibition of lucensomycin-induced hemolysis. The test measures, however, only the fraction of cholesterol which is available for interaction with lucensomycin, this availability being adversely affected by high phospholipid-cholesterol ratios.     

Cyclic AMP during development and ageing of the insectCeratitis capitata

Summary Cyclic AMP was determined during the development of the dipteraCeratitis capitata. The concentration of the nucleotide reaches a peak at apolysis with a sharp decline in the pharate adult stage. Summary The inhibitory action ofHepatitis infectiosa virus on the SDH activity of Detroit-6 (VA) cell lines was investigated. The full inhibition of the SDH activity took place at the end of the third day after the infection. As this phenomenon precedes the cytopathogenetic effect of viral infection, it may be of some help in the early detection of the infection.     

Differential heat-sensitivity of esterase electromorphs in natural polyploid populations ofUrginea maritima (Liliaceae)

Summary The esterase electromorphs of tetra and hexaploid populations ofUrginea maritima show differences in both heat-sensitivity and geographical distribution. Its possible adaptative significance is discussed.     

Growth hormone release after hepatectomy

Resumen El plasma de ratones hepatectomizados, recogido a la medianoche del segundo día de la regeneración, estimula, al igual que la hormona de crecimiento pura, la síntesis de ADN de los hepatocitos y células litorales del hígado del ratón adulto intacto. Este efecto no se observa con el plasma de ratones intactos sacrificados a medianoche ni con solución fisiológica. Se sugiere que el factor estimulante del plasma de ratones hepatectomizados en hormona de crecimiento.

Résumé Les centromères terminaux se présentent comme formés par un chromomère. Leur structure apparaît comme la moitié de la structure centromérique des chromosomes métacentriques.     

Variations in the Golgi complex of mouse prolactin cells at different times in a circadian period

Resumen El aparato de Golgi de las células a prolactin de la pars distalis de la hipofisis del ratón, presenta un desarrollo variable en distintos momentos de un período circadiano. Está muy desarrollado y contiene numerosos gránulos en formación en animales sacrificados al mediodía, mientras que está muy poco desarrollado en los animales sacrificados a la medianoche.
