The uptake of iodinated protein by spleen cells of guinea-pigs in vitro

Zusammenfassung 6×10^–10 g bis 10^–4 g J 125 Rinderserum-Albumin (BSA) bzw. 1,0×10^–7 bis 1,0×10^–6 g J 125 Rinderserum--Globulin (BGG) werden 3 × 10⁷ Milzzellen normaler Meerschweinchen in vitro angeboten. Unabhängig von der Höhe des Angebotes beträgt die Menge des aufgenommenen BSA 1%, die des aufgenommenen BGG 10% des Angebotes. Durch 4C Inkubations-temperatur wird die Aufnahme z.T. behindert. Die Aufnahme findet nach wenigen Sekunden Inkubationszeit statt und ist nach etwa 2–3 min abgeschlossen.

Effect of ions on the light-sensitive current in retinal rods

The effect of ions on the light-sensitive current of retinal rods was studied by sucking the inner segment into a tightly fitting capillary with the outer segment projecting into a flowing solution. This new method showed that the light-sensitive pathway, in which Na+ is the normal carrier of current, has an ionic selectivity different from that of other known sodium channels. Externàl calcium has a striking effect on the current, which increased about 20-fold when all calcium was removed. Reducing the sodium concentration gradient greatly prolonged the response to a flash of light, as would be expected if internal calcium blocks sodium channels and if light releases calcium which is subsequently extruded by a sodium-calcium exchange mechanism.

Tetraethyl lead dose response curve for mortality in laboratory rats

Résumé On a donné à 96 rats mâles albinos six doses différentes de plomb tétra-éthyle par intubation intragastrique. Une courbe dose-réaction a été établie à partir des résultats obtenus et les calculs ont donné une valeur LD₅₀ de 12,3 mg/kg (11,50 à 13,15). Cette valeur diffère de celle qui a été obtenue précédemment. On croit que cette différence résulte du fait qu'un nombre plus grand d'échantillons a été utilisé dans cette série d'observations.     

Tritium analyses of groundwater from the Gort Lowland of Western Ireland

Zusammenfassung Grundwasserproben aus der Gort-Ebene (West-Irland) wurden auf Tritium-Gehalt analysiert und die Ergebnisse mit dem bereits bekannten Tritium-Einstrom dieser Gegend verglichen. Registrierungen des «World Precipitation Network» in Wien ergaben den Nachweis eines offenbar langsamen Durchflusses in das Grundwasser-Aquifer-System.
